Default Ticket in WI - From IL

Hey guys/gals, i got caught in a speed trap over the holiday weekend and got a ticket for 20 over in milwaukee area. (in my avalanche not my s2k)

I'm not familiar with WI tickets, and how they effect my status here in IL. The officer said she got me with Laser going 20 over, and that itll be 6 point violation specific to WI, but she didnt know how it affected me in IL.

I do not see anywhere on the ticket that identifies method of determining speed, but i heard laser are innacurate and can be dismissed/reduced?

I have a court date on June 30 - so if anyone has any insight they can provide i would appreciate it.

Thanks

illinois does not use a points system so that shouldn't effect you at all.

i have gotten a few tickets in states that use points and i have never seen anything come of it to this day.

If you have time just show up to the court date yourself. Every ticket I have appeared for has been reduced to a lesser fine.

Thanks for the reply guys, I was considering appearing for the court date and just making a weekend trip out of it, but would also consider just paying an attorney if he/she can mitigate completely.

In IL if you get three tickets in a year, you can have your license suspeded. Even if you get one of those three tickets in another state (and yes, WI BARELY qualifies as a state. )

IL doesn't use points, so the WI points will mean nothing to you. Depending on the fine (and WI fines are HIGH) you should figure out what a trip to MKE would cost you, including the day off work before you decide to fight it. It is likely just worth paying the fine and forgetting about it (so long as you don't get another ticket in the next 12 mos, or have any from the last 12 mos.)

Everyone's perspective here is spot on except for one thing, unless this has changed in the last 2 years. WI and IL do not share data. IL gets ticket data from nearly every other state, but the Cheeseheads and FlBs still hate each other as far as I know.

The 'points' won't make a difference as they said, because IL just counts tickets (unless they're to the point of reckless driving), but I'm pretty sure IL will not hear of your WI ticket.

I have found that as a long time State Farm customer, they do not go out of their way ever to check your driving record.

If you give them reason to such as claims where you were at fault, it can happen. But there was a time when I actually had my license suspended due to numerous tickets, and was still receiving a 'safe driver discount'.

The thing to not do is constantly shop around every 6 months for the next cheapest insurance.

Get the violation changed to "driving without your license on your person" or "broken speedometer"

Both of those are point violations in WI but do not transfer to IL.
