Hey guys, I've got the time slips and video from last night's trip to Great Lakes Dragaway. It was pretty fun there, but due to High School night, there were pretty long lines. I was only able to get 3 runs in.
This was my first time at the track.... Car 923
First, here's the time slip of my runs without nitrous.
I ran 13.65@107.60 and then 13.46 at 108.08
These were my 2nd and 3rd run. I launched at about 4000 rpms on both. No power shifting.
And here's my run with 65-shot nitrous.
This was my FIRST run. BIG MISTAKE! My tires were too cold and as soon as I hit VTEC in 1st gear, I spun through the entire 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear shifts. Well, not just spun, but at each shift I went straight to the rev limiter! You can see and hear it on the video. Damn!!
What I found out afterwards was that my nitrous solenoid got stuck open and I was spraying up to redline No wonder I couldn't get any traction.
I gave up and ended up cruising through the traps on light throttle at 16.26@63MPH
Considering my 1/8 mile time is only .8 second slower than my other run but only trapping at 66 MPH (vs 84 MPH ), I think I could of easily broke into the 12 second barrier if I had traction.
Anyways, here's the link to the video. Do a "save target as" and then you can see it. 12MB file. All 3 runs are included. The first one is with nitrous and it's from inside the car. The rest were from outside.
One was a built camaro. He ran the 12.9@111. It had huge racing slicks and a dougnut front tire with straight out exhaust.
The second one was a Mustang with nitrous and other mods. He ran a 11.45 at 104MPH! Again racing slicks, straight exhaust, etc.
Those cars were loud as hell. That along with my helmet made it extremely hard to hear my engine. Just had to keep an eye on the tach.
BTW, when I lost traction, tried to shift to 2nd (thinking I could get traction back), then again to 3rd. By that time I thought I blew my drive train. Cuz it just rev'd like it wasn't in gear. But was relieved cuz I could feel the tires just spin. Too much power!!
Power is useless unless you can get it to the ground. Oh well, maybe next time....
The S is harder than hell to hook up at the strip with an SC aren't they? I lit up like that at Nopi a couple years ago. Played sit n spin. Now I only launch around 3600. Are you spraying directly aft of the intercooler so you cool the plenum?
I don't have too much trouble launching at 4000 RPM because I dont drop the clutch. I have an exedy hyper single and it's very strong, so I try to feather the clutch because I'm worried about the durability of the rear end. Even with the nitrous, I launched without wheel spin. It just all of a sudden went from 4000 rpm to rev-limiter and it happened so quickly, I didn't know what happened.
As for the point of spray, here a picture of where it's tapped.
The S03 is the absolute worst drag tire.
That would be the first thing I would work on.
But if you are gonna hit the strip, looking for serious times, I would have to say that you are gonna have to go in knowing you are going to break something.
