Default Two video cards in one PC?

Question to all geeks in here
Why would I want 2 video card in my pc?
I have geforce 5900 ultra somewhere around, and currently have ATI X850xt in my PC, is there any advantage of having 2 of them in one pc(I could run 2 monitors right?)?
Also what the best way to quiet down PC case(no watercooling in this pc...)?
Im getting new fans already, what Im looking for is some kind of insulation, like a foam or something....?

-- Two video cards would let you run two monitors. I think one of the video cards would have to be PCI unless your motherboard has 2 AGP slots in it.

-- Water cooling the probably the only way to safely quiet down the computer, another way would be to put the unit into a vented sound deadened box.

Sounds like someone's pimpin their computer up

Be careful, once you go dual monitors you can't go back. Using a regular computer will forever seem cramped and confining. And some directx apps don't properly handle dual monitors so you'll have to switch settings around to get them to work.

Although, hooking up two monitors was the best thing I ever did.

There is no point of having two video cards.
Almost ALL video cards now allow you to run dual monitors.

Plastic cases are more quiet then metal ones. And fans play a large role in making it quiet. You don't want a dual ball bearing high RPM fan if you want a quiet case.

how to quiet your PC

http://www.maximumpc.com/how_to/reprint_2005-01-28.html

as for running dual monitors, you'd actually probably need two PCI cards, as often times using 1 AGP and 1 PCI won't work. (most motherboards do not support this kind of configuration, and will give windows problems) however, i'd question that kind of practicality for you. IMO, I don't see why you'd use two monitors unless you were doing CAD and other things where you need a ton of realestate.

I concur with you pro Dual monitor ppl. I currently have about 25 windows open that I actually need to do my job and its nice to compare the two on separate monitors. oh, its good for $$$$$$ too. its like being at the twisted spoke for $$$$$$ and eggs, $$$$$$ EVERYWHERE.

and get one videocard that supports two monitors or the computer gods will strike you down. (or at least youll spend way too much time with activex problems and probably end up crying like a little bitch)

You can either run two video cards to one monitor, or SLI (Scalable Link Interface). They need to be the same card, and you need a compatible motherboard. You get a 30-50% increase in performance with SLI.

or

You can run two monitors. Doubles your real estate, more room for p0rn, etc. Most of my friends who do this play games on one monitor and leave the other with their web applications (i.e. p0rn). Most are bigger dorks and just run two or more computers.

Quiet? Better fans. Do not insulate it.
