WTB AP1 ballasts
I managed to actually find a working ballast for AP1 X6T02671 from a junkie in the UK and I do know that he doesn't have another at this time. I am teaming up with an older electronics technician who is going to assist me in attempting to find a way to repair these units as no one is doing that adn their seems to be some demand. I have a ballast that is good that I bought from another junkie who accidently cut off the wires and didn't tell me prior to my buying it. (See story in another post by jovahe) He sent me a full refund when I busted on him about selling disfunctional equipment on Ebay and then I gave him a token amount ($25) to keep the unit for experimentation purposes. I had purchased a set of igniter wires for the D2S bulb (HID xenon) cheapie and i got what I paid for....the ballast put out a good output voltage but it got lost in a poorly assembled D2S socket assembly and would not light the new bulb as the output was jumping to ground inside the plug head. NO GOOD! So now I am searching for a source of a good OEM style igniter wire off an OEM AP1 ballast so that I can splice it to the cut off wires on the ballast that I have and repair it. I plan to remove the bad ballast from my 2000 model S2K and team up with my electronics guru to attempt a repair on it once we have a good understanding of what makes it tick and what has failed. I think finding an answer to why they fail may lead to an improvement fix for it that will last and offer people who need a good one some hope to finding one. We'll see how that goes after we determine the failure mode. So if there is anyone out there who would sell me their output (igniter wire that has the bulb socket on it), that would allow me to rebuild and successfully test the one ballast that I have on the test bench at present.
I did find one person in LATVIA, of all places, who is doing repairs BUT....the shipping from there would be astronomically expensive. If he can do it there, we can do it here!! So keep your fingers crossed that I can get this hooked up and be able to offer other S2K owners a pathway to getting their headlights working that way they should.
