Default Logan newbie...

Wudup everyone? Just figured I'd better announce yes.....people do live here in Logan, and that i drive the only s2000 in Cache Valley, not drove by an elderly person-haha. On V-day I figured I would spoil myself by trading in my turbo'd VW Passat (vw's blow!), and grab my "01 yellow s2000. It already had some tein's under it, with a front add-on bumper (not sure which one it is). I'm in love with this car right now and plan on finding the right intake/exhaust for my car real soon. I plan on going the all motor route, with the toda head package and AEM EMS. any input or comments would be helpful. Thanks guys.

Welcome 1.8!

Hopefully you're not driving the S up there in the snow. All motor with the F20 or F22 is an expensive route that has to my knowledge had limited success. I went the all motor route with my F20c. I used Joe Allaniz. He came highly recommended; though based on my experience I certainly would not recommend him.

He built a full competition motor for me with a long list of goodies:
* Big Bore up to 89mm. Brings displacement up to 2202cc.
* Replace with high strength ductile iron sleeves.
* 88.5mm (3.486") small journal crank 9000+ RPM capability (AN ALANIZ EXCLUSIVE)
* ARIAS Forged piston kit. 14:1Cr
* Rings (low tension type) made in USA.
* Rods (Cunningham Ultra light stroker rods made to our specifications)
* Custom bearings Tri-Metal race type (AN ALANIZ EXCLUSIVE)
* New oil pump
* Competition Head Work
* Titanium Retainers
* New bronze valve guides (intake and exhaust)
* 1mm Oversize SS valves on intake, stock exhaust size
* Competition inner springs with locators
* New Gaskets and seals (long block only)
* Balance engine
* Clean/Balance injectors.
* Blueprint block to ALANIZ race specifications.

AEM EMS, 6+ hours of dyno tuning, AEM intake, TODA header, JIC single Ti exhaust.

Total $ investment was high. Net result after all that expense was less than 20 RWHP. ARG!

I then went with the Comptech supercharger. Relative investment was MUCH, MUCH less than the all motor route with a net result of 140+ RWP!

... so as you might guess, I don't recommend all motor route for S2000. From the factory it's an excellent all motor setup. Investing $$$ aftermarket in an all motor setup is not a route I'd attempt again.

Forget the I/E. It hardly does anything. Instead, get some good tires and come to some of the auto-x events. This will be my first year in the S2000, so it'll be interesting.

I agree!

I just saw your posts on http://forums.utahscca.com. Glad to see another S2000 coming out for SCCA!

Yah bud, all motor sounds cool when you tell your friends, and you tell them how you have this and that and that ported and this CP ratio, and then you take a ride in MSN or my car and you relize you just spent BIG$$$ for nothing.

BUT HEY thats not a bad thing.....it just means that the jap engineer's did there job. The F20C is a VERY HIGHLY EFFICENT little guy, it just sucks for all you "all motor" lovers cause I don't think your going to get the gratification you want, but to each his own.

Good luck and enjoy the new car.

"to each his own..." I like that-
I'm still not sure what i want to do... would i get more gains from supercharging or turbo? What shop is the best around the Salt Lake area?? Like i said, i'm from Logan, and i wouldn't dream of letting any shop here touch my car, hell.... i won't even let my girl wash my car, even in her strings-ha!

The answer to that is up to opinion.

I went with a turbo because I feel the motor wasn't lacking from power up-top but from low end and mid hp, as well as torque, so I went with a little turbo and have never looked back. My roomate also has a S2000 and when I take out his N/A car it makes me feel like it has "turbo lag" because on the non-turbo car you have to wait till 7k before you start feeling anything...

I guess this is the perfect car for all those who complain about turbo lag.....well, this car losses lag when turbo'd.

Hmmm never thought of it like that.

BUT supercharging is effective as well and also a great option. Alot less hastle, easy to put in and out, and alot less matinance and I would say alot easier to tune.
And both put out SERIOUS NUMBERS, so once again here is your favorite line.....when it comes to supercharger or turbocharger they are both equal and just as good....so...to each his own.

I'd either leave it stock or go supercharger or turbo. Supercharger can be a bit less expensive and less problematic to setup / tune. There was no proven turbo setup for the S2000 when I went FI or I probably would have gone that route.

Don't go for a ride in a FI S2000 or you'll be hooked.

What mike says is true,

All are welcome for a ride but you won't like your car after. I know my roomate didn't. The car starts, drives, idle, and behaved just like stock, but the 1st comment I get from everyone that I give a ride to is, "Wow that feels like a big v6 under the hood that pulls even harder when we get up-top". The torque is a beautiful thing.

Feel free to jam down to Provo for a ride anytime.
