Solitude Mountain - good or bad?
Hi all!
I'm looking to get some input about Solitude Mountain. I've checked out some stuff about them online & it sounds pretty good - decent snowfall, variety of terrains, good lodging, etc. This will be my first time skiing out west, but I'm an experienced skier (hubby, on the other hand, is new to the sport).
Anybody have any opinions about this place?
Thanks in advance.

I would suggest Snowbird. I haven't been to solitude for awhile, but Snowbird is well known, has good lodging, good skiing(in my case snowboarding). If you want to snowboard, I'd suggest either Snowbird or Brighton.
Snowbird has more of a resort feel to it. More lodging and dining. Solitude is also great for skiing, and has some new lodging facilities. How long are you going to be here? If you are gonna be here for more than a couple days, I'd recommend going to a few resorts. Alta is right next to Snowbird; which only allows skiiers, so if you ski it has less crowds, and fabulous runs. In the next canyon over (20 minute drive) is Solitude and Brighton. Those to are great places to ski.

It depends a lot on what kind of skiing and atmosphere you're looking for.
Snowbird: has some very good advanced/steep terrain. Plenty of trendy outfits, good terrain but not much in the way of post ski fun.
Alta: some incredible terrain including phenomenal advanced trails, but some of the best stuff requires some hiking. Old school ski resort ... no snowboarding
Solitude: better beginner and intermediate terrain than Snowbird. Almost never any lines ... and some good advanced terrain ... but not as much selection as Snowbird. Not much in the way of post-ski fun
Park City / Deer Valley: best "destination" resort area. A very good selection of excellent restaurants. Big resort with a good mix of beginner, intermediate and advanced terrain ... but advanced terrain is not as steep or difficult as Snowbird/Alta/Solitude.
