where does an evo or sti stand
ok guys i know im going to get dissed up the yingyang but i was wondering where does an evo or sti stand compared to our cars? ive been thinking about getting one but has anyone on here ever driven one? i know N/A is completely different cause throttle response is almost immediate where as turbo takes a sec or two but ive been finding some killer deals on some so i was just wondering
Know a guy with an evo 9 MR. The thing is just blazing fast. I've driven it a number of times. Probably the fastest car I have driven. I have no doubt it would smoke the S without even breaking a sweat.
My brother has an 06 STI. Pretty much the same story as the evo. The STI does seem to be slightly nicer interior along with a few more comforts such as cruise, nicer stock stereo, etc.
Both are great cars but, the thing to remember is that they are in a totally different class than the S.

would you take one over an S? i love mine but for some reason im bored with it i mean i planned on doing things to it and what not but i dont know ive been looking into them alot and im pretty interested in them
I don't think I would. I'm fortunate to have the best of both worlds. My wife has an 08 mini S which is plenty quick, comfortable, and easy to drive along with incredible gas mileage. The S is just very much a sports car. Fun to drive, convert is great during the summer, and looks really good.
What about the S are you getting bored with? Power? comfort? or just time for a new car? I suffer from the new car bug every few years.

I've spent a fair bit of time in both the S2000 and the Evo. Less time in the STi though it's fairly comparable to the Evo. The cars are very different. Stock-for-stock an Evo is significantly faster than an S2000 on track. The Evo is also significantly easier to drive fast on track as it is a very forgiving car. Get in trouble ... mash the throttle and toss the car around, while the S requires finesse to go fast. Given a choice, I'd always choose to drive the S on track as it's just more fun. For street, well, pretty much the same except for the practicality of a 4 door, 4WD sedan.
If you're looking to mod your car and want something that is relatively inexpensive to get a lot more power out of ... the Evo is also a good option.
Styling ... hands down I prefer the S2000. No comparison in my opinion.
UT_Evo has had both an S2000 and an Evo so he has more experience than most with both cars. He sold his Evo last year and went for a cushy 4WD Porsche.

one big factor is the altitude. we lose ~15% of our power here at 4000ft, so a stock s2000 goes from 200-210whp down to ~170-180whp. the turbo in the evo makes up for most of the loss due to altitude, so he's way ahead in power.
i've heard turbo cars typically lose about half the power NA cars lose due to altitude, though i've never seen any data, and if the car is working properly, theoretically the turbo will compensate for altitude and he'll be getting full power up here. regardless, NA cars are handicapped up here in the mountains.
another thing is: a coworker of mine bought an evo IX, put about $1000 into it, and had intake, exhaust, and a reflash with (safely) increased boost. that makes a big difference in power, and for a small price tag.
if you want lots of speed for little money, they're great cars.
there is a problem if you dont get one new: make sure you dont get one thats been beat to death--that's MUCH more common for evos than S2000s. a lot of the cars for sale have problems because the owner used an untuned manual boost control/dry nitrous kit/etc (cheap cheap power at great potential expense to long-term reliability) or just because the owner tracked the crap out of the car and then went to sell it once everything was worn out.
i've also heard many horror stories to the tune of "well, your 1 year old car has an aftermarket radio, so we aren't going to honor your warranty and fix your faulty head gasket because you modified the car."
but if you find a good one, it's one of the easiest ways to get a lot of power to the ground for very little money. but DO consider a supercharger before you get rid of the S2000.

My boss Joey, Has an 08 evo 10. Ive ridden in it a couple of times. Its sick! Then you look back and realize...its a sedan. Through a car seat in and listen to the child say... Hoarse Power Daddy. But anyway the S is a Drivers Car. The evo is a rally car in my opinion. The S requires lots of input and the evo almost drives its self. Its wierd that the yaw control thinks for you and i think it takes away from the road/tire feel that you get in the S that makes it so fun to drive. Evo's are fast "F"ing cars. The S......is classy as Hell Roadster that shouldnt really be compared to the Evo or Sti. Bitches... jk
