Default Auto-X

hey guys... I went to my first Auto-X event tonight and to say the least I think I am hooked... ... But I found that I was sliding everywhere and everyone at the event said that my tires are too hard and that I need some stickier rubber... I am running 18" falcon fk452's ----245 in the rear and 215 up front.... I think it would be better on my stock wheels????? Just wondering what you guys would recomend for some good grip....

RT615s are pretty good. I don't think 18s would be a good choice for AutoX...

The to have tire was the RE-01R's but the new to have tire is the RE-11R from Bridgestone.

Depending on who told you that, I wouldn't listen to them.
You best thing is to concentrate on your driving. Try to find out why you are sliding around. Perhaps your tire pressures are off or you are simply over driving.

Shameless plug time.

Take some autoX specific drivers training. Give you more seat time and more input to what you might be doing wrong.

Crappier tires are actually the best tires to learn on anyway. A crappier tire won't mask any of your driving mistakes and will force you to have smooth steering, acceleration, and braking inputs. Your times won't be fast, but it will definately make you a better driver in the long run. Just don't worry about how fast you are compared to others for the first while and work on improving your driving.

Trust me, this works. I made my wife run on the stock RE-92's on her WRX for her whole first season. She became pretty frustrated by the end of the season because the tires just woudln't allow her to be anywhere near fast, but she learned great car control and became a very smooth driver.

If you can't bear to not run on fast street tires and you HAVE to buy a new set. The RE-11's should be one of the fastest along with the Dunlop Direzza Star Specs, and the Advan Neova. The RT615's are a pretty fast tire as well but a little below the other 3 i mentioned.

Thanks for the info.... Yah I think I might get some better tires next summer and try to do my best for this one.... Gonna get some really good rubber for the stock rims next season...
