Default Check Engine Light Came On! :(

Hey guys,

I was driving down Gilmore the other day and my check engine light came on, much to my dismay. I borrowed an OBD from a co-worker but for some reason it doesn't work on the s2k, but works fine on his Speed 3. The car is running fine, no noticeable change but the light hasn't gone away yet.

Does anyone know where I could go get the codes checked for free? Preferably lower mainland or Burnaby. Thanks!

It isn't a tune up notification is it?

Most places can check it for you but its not going to be free.

Loose gas cap? If you can't feel any difference it could be that.

If not then...

Is the car misfiring or not responding when you give it throttle?

Start checking your coil packs, then spark plugs, then fuel injectors. Had this problem earlier this year and it turns out my coil packs were going bad.

Good luck with the cel

No, it's not the maintenance light, wish it was!

It definitely seems to be driving just fine. I'll give the gas cap a good twist and hope it's just that!

do a search, theres a way you can pull the code with a paper clip. its not gonna pin point exactly what the problem is, but it'll give you a general category of where the problem is. The idea is to use the paper clip to short a connection in the obd2 connectors and it'll put it in diagnostic mode or some sort. then you'll see a set of blinking lights on the dash to see what the code is.

update: nvm here ya go

Thanks for the offer! It actually came back. =/ I borrowed an OBD II from a guy at work and it turns out I have a bad primary O2 sensor. Not even 50k on the clock yet too, irritating!

So I finally take my car into Happy Honda to have the sensor replaced, and when I pick up the car there's an inch long scratch on the dashboard by the passenger side vent that I notice while I'm driving back to work. I call them up about it and of course they say it wasn't them, and that there's no reason why the techs would be touching the dashboard, which is pure BS since there were dirty fingerprints on it, which I foolishly wiped off before noticing the scratch. I am soooo pissed. Anyone have a good solution for dash scratches? I searched the forums for some ideas but any of your thoughts would be appreciated.
