Default Howdy

Hi everyone,

New member here. Just got my S2K few days ago and wanted to say hi.

I've been driving for about 12 years and this is my first car. Prior to this, I have never driven manual before (unless you count stalling Porsches working at the car wash ages ago).

Unlike most people, I kinda did things backward. The first vehicle I bought was a bike (Kawi 250). Then I shot myself in the foot by buying a brand new 09 Yamaha R1 last year, and gave it up a month ago. I lost all interest in street riding from all the popos, injured friends, while trying to keep "the beast inside" under control. For sure, after having some track time and now racing a Honda NSR50, it further solidifies my decision to go track only with bikes.

Needless to say, I'm very pleased with this machine. It is exactly what I wanted: RWD, light, great handling, and beautiful looking. Top down, it's the next best thing to a bike. I was also considering the Subaru BRZ. Test drove the Toyota/Scion version both on the road and in a closed course parking lot event. It's a really good car bang for the buck if one was looking for brand new. It has very interesting design concepts, and a few bells and whistles that I really wanted. However, it just didn't wow me enough to firmly say "I want this NOW". Plus I can't help but to think: Honda has done it 12 years ago - with more power. So logically, I couldn't find a reason to pay more for less performance.

My car is a 2004 AP2 in Berlina Black bought from a fellow member here who just had a baby. Nothing special, all stock. Probably just going to slap some black wheels on it with a OEM front lip on it and call it a day. I'm more interested in learning how to drive properly than anything else at the moment.

I look forward to meeting you all in future meets and events! Cheers.

Hello there. Welcome aboard. You've made a great choice. This is a true roadster. Light weight, 50/50 weight distribution spells tight handling. Must say you got the right approach with wanting to master driving before doing the car up. Hey not bad for a first car eh? Haha! Ever thought of buying a daily driver? I mean we are in prime S2000 weather but come winter you may not want to take her out of the garage. Some guys do but I believe most of us have a second vehicle. If you are not used to rear wheel drive combined with a manual trannsmission It can at times get squirrelly in the corners especially when the pavement is wet. My advice take your time learning the feel of the car. Change all the fluids/tune up and take that roadster for a long day trip. Before you know it when the ass end goes sliding out in a turn/corner you won't be surprised and you'll find that she's easy to correct and that's when you start having a good time. One thing that is going to save you a ton of dough, a good radar detection device. Sometimes you'll find it hard not to speed a touch over the speed limit in the first while. Not saying go out there and drive like a jerk, but every now and then when the road is empty You're gonna want to open her up and if you avoid one speeding ticket the the radar detector has all ready paid for its self. If you ever want to go for a good cruise on a Friday or satuarday let me know I'll join ya. A good run is the Hope Slide, but there are others. Enjoy

Welcome to s2ki, you bought the best colour (haha j/k) !!! I always wanted to track my bike, but never got to it. My fairings and suit is collecting dust at home. Props to you.

Driven a lot of cars and the s2k tranny is one of my favourite. Try to drive another manual car and you'll know why.

Great plans for your car.

^ to answer the question, I will be using it as a DD throughout the entire year. I will have access to the family's 2012 Impreza if it snows. So all grounds are covered.

Thanks for the advice everyone! So far so good on dry pavement, taking it one step at a time. Will take it out with extra caution when rain falls.

Given it more thought today! I'm taking my car out this weekend so if you want to go for a cruise send me a message. Anyone welcome to join me. Either Porteau Cove or Hope Slide but I'm up for other suggestions as long as its not Richmond or Downtown.

Welcome to the boards . It's a good group of guys (and the odd female) on here.

Let me know if you are looking to get your new beast shined up. Berlina Black is my specialty. Check out some cars my friend and I have done here: https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/854...foreafter-vid/
