Default Long road trips in a 2K

Yesterday my AP2 finally made the 50,000 Km mark (on a beautiful chilly top-down day), so that psychological barrier is over with.

Lately I've been thinking of taking a long road trip in the summer. In my case it would be a drive to Nova Scotia to visit family in my home town.

Has anyone here had experience driving very long distances in a 2K? I wouldn't be in a hurry and assume I'd need lots of short rest stops to stretch my legs. I have no doubt the 2K would eat this up in style, but what about the occupants? I have the option of taking the CR-V, but it just wouldn't be the same

I've had my S2K only for just under 2 months and one thing I've noticed is that highway driving can be quite noisy, and my car is 100% stock. Even at 110km/hr the engine is already roaring at ~4k rpm and it's very noticeable. I can't imagine how tired I would be from the drone after driving across Canada with it. Personally, I would take the CR-V if I were you because it's just more comfortable for long drives and you can stash more crap in the car.

I've driven almost 5000km over a few days. Space was a little bit of an issue but it was awesome!

Honestly I think it really depends on your driving preferences. Let me clarify. Since it's in the summer, I'm guessing you are gonna have the top down and wind going past your head anyways. I don't think that you will notice the drone very much with wind in your ear. And even if you do, it'll just re-enforce that you are driving ur beautiful s2k.

However, if you will be keeping the top up and having the A/C on while listening to audio books, I agree with MaceWindu that it will be unbearable. Cabin noise will be too high to have a quiet conversation and in that case, CR-V may be a better choice.

Personal opinion though, you might regret not taking the S on this (probably) once in a lifetime road trip across the country.

Interesting comments.

I'm still very tempted to take the 2K since the noise doesn't bother me and it provides valuable clues as to how the car is doing. I almost never switch on the radio/CD player, so that won't be a problem. A good friend of mine has shown that with a bit of care you can get sufficient luggage in the car for two people on an extended trip ... you just need to find a laundromat now and then.

That's the spirit! Nothing like listening to the purr of your engine for 6000 kms!

Hope you do end up taking the S though. It'll be one heck of a trip with the top down and sun in your face.

You got that right! I'll have to remember to put lots of sunscreen on my face and ears, LOL

You do realize there are 5th and 6th gears? 4000 rpm is ~80mph/130kmh in an AP2.

But, you're right about the noise being tiresome. Any aftermarket exhaust will make it worse. Gonna be age dependent to a large extent. I thought nothing about 20-24 hour runs in cars much less sophisticated than the S2000 (TR4 & MGB)when I was a lot younger.

Forget about the 5th and 6th gear. Constant Vtec ftw.
