Looking for an AP2
Hmmm, yeah, the s2k definitely isn't the fastest thing out there (was it ever?), but I don't think the people buying them for $20k+ care that it can't beat the latest new car. If that was the prevailing mentality, people wouldn't be buying old Beetles--I mean, Porsches.
And I'm afraid I just don't see a new car coming out that will somehow destroy the value of s2ks. There have been a bunch of new things that have come out since the s2k was discontinued. And any new sports car will most likely either be cheap and compromised like the FRS or BRZ (sorry, owners) or decently expensive. I mean, a car has come out that has all those things you want. It's called the Cayman GT4... and it costs ~$100,000.
I do think that s2k prices will continue to fluctuate somewhat, but probably not by much.
Is that $30,000 on top of the purchase price of those cars...?

When I see s2000's for over $20k (lettelone $30k) I shake my head. I mean you can easily build (or buy from the US) a car that will blow the s2000 out of the water in most every way for $20-30,000. For $30,000 you can get a tuned vette, 500hp sti, and build all kinds of amazing Japanese sports cars (rx7, supra, 300zx, etc). The only thing withstanding is it is hard to find a convertible that also is a drivers car outside of the s2000.
Interesting points! Japmuscle, I agree that there are better cars available for the same money, especially for the performance crowd. And pearl_s2k, that Cayman is beyond cool, but there are two show-stoppers for me ... price, and no ragtop. Same for the new NSX.
For me, it's the joy of driving an affordable top-down car that is stock, minimalist in cockpit features, inexpensive to maintain, reliable, has aggressive looks, and is maxed out on fun. (and fits in my small-ish carport)
I'd love to see someone manufacture a worthy replacement for the S2K, with some updating but at a reasonable price, which wouldn't be easy. Sadly, the rumors about a new Honda sports car seem to have fizzled out. Maybe we should start a new thread ... the wishlist for new S2xxx specs.

Just a heads up ... keep your eyes on Craigslist/Kijiji/etc. I was told that there will be a stock 2009 silver AP2 going on the market in Alberta. Less than 22K km on the clock. I have no idea what the asking price will be. Private sale.
