you can't just post some specs out..

you need to let us know what you are going to use your computer for and what you budget is...

there's no point in saying that you want a 2.4ghz chip when you have no purpose for it.

don't worry, i'm not mad

just that you need to be specific when you are looking at computers. there are so many varieties out there that you can't just say "i need a computer" because it can range from $800 to $3000...

what kind of pleasure use?? gaming? internet?? video editing? audio encoding?? dvd watching??

also, you need to also include you budget to give a more general idea of the type of computer that you are looking for..

okay, well my budget is preferably 1500 after tax, but a bit over is fine i guess. No, i really dont need the computer for anythign else but internet, word processing. Maybe a little bit of gaming, but nothing that a geforce 4 mx440 128mb card wont handle.

i just realy want to know if you guys know of any good computer stores that offere great prices and sell quality built computers. obviously i dont want to buy a computer from future shop, or london drugs because those computer are marked up like crazy.

Well unless u're getting a damn nice 17" LCD monitor with it then I guess u don't need to spend as much as 1500cad? I dunno.

Price dropped a bit in the past 2 months.

ok, with that budget, here is an idea of what you can get..

intel 2.4ghz C 800fsb $260
512mb ram (something like corsair) $170
motherboard $200
hard drive (around 80gb should be more than enough) $140
ATI 9500 Radion $280

these are the essentials that i would look into getting.. you will end up with a pretty nice machine for that kind of money. do not get the geforce mx. stick with the radeon 9500 as it'll be a much better performer.

if you are planning on buying a prebuilt system, i would look into getting many intergrated things.. such as sound, network card, and maybe modem if you need it... this way, it'll save you some money and you won't be needing to buy them separately. make sure that you at least customize it to get the 2.4c chip or equivalent and the ati radeon 9500 card... everything else is optional.. example would be the hard drive, you can decide on how much space you think will be sufficient for your needs.. i put down 80gb and it should be more than enough for you.. you could even get a 60gb if you want.

with this kind of setup, you will still have quite a bit of money left over... around $400 or so... depending on what else you want, it should fit into that... keyboard, mouse, cd writer (if needed), and i would suggest a 15" lcd or a bigger crt monitor...

i based this on a intel system, if you are looking at amd, then you will be saving even more money... you can then take that money and probably buy a nice 17" lcd if that is what you want.

one more thing, $1500 seems like a bit too much to spend for your needs... if you plan on playing the newest games out there, then the setup that i described will get your money's worth... but if you are into playing the older games like counterstrike, then you really don't need to spend that much money... if this is the case then save money on various things.. i would still suggest that you stick with the intel 2.4 c chip as it's a great chip for such a good price... everything else you can lower a little like the vid card, hard drive, ram, etc...

for places to purchase your computer from, i would strongly suggest either Apower (bridgeport) or NCIX (metrotown)... these two companies build computers and will customize them to your needs..

if you have any questions, lemme know.
