Default need a key

Anyone here had a key programed? cheapest place to get it done? anyone work for a dealer on here?

I only got 1 key from the last owner and don't want to be stranded if I lose it. Also not sure if it's worth $150+ for a back up key.

Yeah, it's not cheap to duplicate our keys. You need the key blank, labor costs to cut and program said key, and not to mention the remote if you wanted that. I was in the same boat as you when I first bought my S2K and decided to pay for an extra set of keys. FYI- the original key blanks are becoming hard to locate.

umm.. your car won't start...programming with key cost like $150.. they claim it takes 40 min.. BS...
if you get a key from ebay and they program it, the dealer won't take liability if it locks up your programming ($100 for the programming BS) for the ignition..with will cost u a lot more to replace the whole thing...

Any one work at Honda that can score me a deal?

I had my key duplicated in Victoria at Price's Locksmiths for about $35 ($25 for blank plus $10 for programming). The dealer quoted $160.

I'm sure you can find a similar price in Vancouver.

Rob, if that's the guy on Forte he tried to rip me off with a valet key for the door locks only. i think he wanted $10 for the blank and 40 bucks to cut it. plus GST. i laughed and walked out. i had a chip key done at Discovery but i don't think they have the gear any more.

Sorry Jon. Don't mean to hijack your thread.

So... where does that leave us?

I still don't know where to get it programmed in Vancouver. Any other ideas? I need the same thing.

Well - I had a great experience there. I was in and out in 5 minutes and it was less than 1/4 of what Campus Honda wanted for a key (and they wanted me to schedule an appointment two weeks in advance)!!

Have any of the other posters called locksmiths in Van? I called at least one other in Vic that wasn't much more money than what I paid.
