I hate that too...I will give you a shout sometime next week and get the key done Duaine. That was my plan anyway, but I was more interested in learning how all of this works and how the dealers do it. I never even considered the fact that you could just get a key cut without it being programmed - as I thought it was a special type of key only avail through the dealer (which I think you confirmed as my car is an 04).

there are no cheep keys for 04 and up cause they changed the style of key cutting. 95% sure. as for an e-bay key why take the chance and hassle, who knows what your getting. come on guyes we own S2000s, most of our cars are worth 20 to 30 Gs, 52 brand new and you want to buy a replica key??????? dont be one of those people who can afford to buy the car but cant afford to own it!!! and for the vin you would have to go to the dealer as the registered owner with the reg papers and they will cut you a key as long as you have the original locks
Just becuase are cars are expensive doesn't mean that we can't look for some deals to save a few bucks!
im not saying all items on e-bay are replicas, i just believe people are selling genuin honda uncut keys. now dealer mark-up is rediculous, sometimes its worth it.
just anexample i used to have an 89 civic with one key (not genuin) and the key didnt work in all the doors, so i took them apart and fixed them. then i had another key cut and again it didnt fit in all the doors (hatch). i decided to call honda and ask if they could cut a key for my car because i wasnt sure that their records went back that far. well turns out that they could although key was like 8 bucks and given the year the locks may have bel changed. i said i wanted it anyway. when i recieved the key i worked on all the locks even the ones i modified, and i never had a problem again. you see their lockes are designed for their key cutters.the only other people you should trust cutings ant supplying keys are certified locksmiths. unfortunately most people dont know this. so now you know.

So if I just order a door key...and say I loose my ignition key at some point... All they need is my VIN number to program a new key that is cut to match my door key correct?
There is a difference between a Canadian car and an American car when it comes to keys. I brought my car up from the States and it had only one key.
I had a local dealer cut me a new key and it would not work! Dealers in Canada do not have access to American VIN codes so they where not able to program the key. They also said that the keys were different. They tried to charged me $100 for the failed attempt![B] I eventually drove down to Wenatchee, WA to a Honda dealership and had a key cut for $135 US
When it comes to Ma Honda, the Cdn dealers have no formal access to parts and info from the US dealers. I needed to replace a rear leaky shock. The local dealers said none were in stock in Canada and back ordered. I called a friend who was vacationing in Reno at the time, He arranged to have a Honda dealer there to ship one to me. It took about a week and was cheaper than the list price at the local dealer.
