Stand your ground and fight for it. They'll fix it for you. Customers should always come first.
I work at Mercedes and I try to (cant say the same for my coworkers) pay attention to the condition of the car when I put it on my lift and if I ever cause something serious like that then I fess up. I took apart the entire front interior of a G Wagon and I made the TINIEST chip on the center console woodgrain and I fessed up and we bought him a new one....needless to say, my manager wasnt too happy to fork out $1500 for a new piece of wood. But yeah, just stick your ground, make them pay for their mistake and let them eat it up, you pay for their services so make them serve you. But you already decided what to do, just my 2 cents.

Did they wash your car right after? If they did wash then I wasn't very surprised about the scratch because the way they washed your car is like washing the floor.

Actually, I specifically asked them not to wash or vacuum my car. I've seen how they wash cars...

I'm not calling you a liar, neither am I defending Middlegate Honda, but I work in the automotive industry and it is not unusual for customers to notice old damage upon picking up their cars. I've been guilty of doing the same. It is natural to be more attentive to detail when one is picking up something valuable that has been in someone else's hands for an amount of time. That said, geppetto is right. The fix may or may not be satisfactory. It is your call whether you'd like to pursue this. Good luck.

You're absolutely right...for that same reason I checked my car before I dropped it off and made a mental note of any old damage or scratches. I specifically checked the area where I knew most of the work would be done. And as you mentioned, the repair might be worse, so I'm probably just going to stay away from them.
