Smile $100 To Mount Tires!

SO i got my new nitto sneakers for MY01 yesterday and was so excited that I wanted to get them mounted that same day. So, I stop by a local service station I had once used for to get an inspection to get the tires put on. Of course like an idiot I didn't ask what it would cost assuming that it would be a fairly inexpensive job. After they finished they charged me $25.00 per tire to mount and balance! I was like, are you serious? And of course the toothless mechanic said yes of course. Materials costs were: valve stems (2.00 each) and tire disposal (???). WTF!!!! I argued for a bit then just left in an outrage. Was I out of line? Or did I just get BUTT-F***** by a local garage?

Should have cost you around $12-$15 per tire at a normal place.

Costco charges $6 a tire to mount and balance. But most places here usually charge between $9-15 a tire. I take my cars to Costco to have my tires swapped, and they do a good job.

$25/rim is not out of line for a quality place (a shop that uses Hunter equipment that won't scratch your rims), but for a local Goober shop, that's a pretty hefty price. $2/stem is normal, also expect around $5/tire for disposal fees. What did the rest of the $100 go towards?

I'm assuming the rest of the $100.00 went towards the 30 minutes of labor. And no, they didn't have any fancy equipment. Infact, I found scratches on the edges of my rims where they had forced the tire on. Should I report them to Better Business Bureau?

Wait, you "like an idiot I didn't ask what it would cost" and want to report them to the BBB?

I agree, for a quality place it's not out of line. I just replaced my rear tires and it came out to a total of $58. The disposal fee was 3 per tire. I don't know if they had a hunter machine but this place does good work and my rims came back in good shape. I did tell the mechanic to be careful with the wheels.

I use Hunter equipment and it is $9.95 per wheel to mount/dismount/balance/valve stem at my workplace.
