Default 17" or 16" ?

So, today i finally got under my new car and did some work. i evened out my suspension (previous owner was probably retarded) and went lower overall. i am running motegi trak lites (amazingly light and great wheel for anyone interested, was placed 3rd in top lightest wheels of NOPI in some magazine i forget which but it was recently )

anyways, i have a little less than a finger width wheel gap on all of the wheels.

as i drove around to test the slightly new drop, i noticed rubbing on hard bumps and when i make a right turn at moderate speeds like 20 + ... this is very dissapointing because i wanted more of a drop and was looking forward to it, but im gonna have to raise it up again come this weekend when i get time again.

i am running 40 series tires on the 17'' trak lites. frontt 215 rear 255 i believe. not sure of the wheel offsets but i think that is irrelevant to this issue.

does anyone else have problems like this with their 17s? seeing cars like silentdancer's make me so tempted to pick up some 16's so i can be safe and have my desired drop.

i really like my current wheels, and 17s are a pretty optimal size for our cars, i just wish i could go lower without sacrificing too much in the way of practicality.

is it unusual to run a 35 or lower series tire on 17" wheels?? how many people do this? it would be helpful to see/hear about. so if you have pics of a lower profile tire than 40 or anything that would help me out here i would really appreciate it.

i know this sort of thing has probly been covered tons throughout this forums life, but im pooped and depressed at the lack of success in todays suspension work.

thanks guys.

also im lowered on Tein Flex coilovers.

i wwas thinking about seeing if i could stiffen up my dampening and if that owuld help the spring compressiona nd therefore stop the rubbing??

but i do daily my car and i dont want too stiff of a suspension.

even still when i track my car when the weather gets nice again, too stiff of suspension could cause the wheels to lift up and lose traction on hard turns ar the track.

any advise on this ??

Most of the time the issue is with the offsets.

I would also look at a 245/40R17 for the rear and it may stop the rubbing. With the car lowered you can also run a little more negative camber and roll the fender lips.

i'll find out the offsets by tonight hopefully, i have work soon.

thanks for the input jim.

i have never rolled any fenders before, but that sounds to be the norm for most people with a nice drop here.. so that is something i will definately consider.

its proabably a dumb question but how do you go about the rolling fenders? and would it be good to roll the fronts as well as the rears?

i should probably search for that one huh? lol. points in the right directionw ill be helpful.

thanks so far guys and like i said ill try to get the offsets soon.

ok so i could be compeltely retarded but on the wheels it says i am running...

+42 offset front AND rears

does that sound like the correct information? maybe im just not lookin in the right place. lol. but thats what it says on the wheels themselves.

how wide are the rims?

to roll the rear fenders, take out the little black rubber strip on the quarter panel edge. theres about 1 inch of metal "lip" and you want to bend that back so its flush with the fender. be sure whoever rolls your fenders uses a heat gun on the paint so it wont crack.

i guess theres something im missing with giving the offset?.....

and also i have searched and havent seen it anywhere adressed yet..

im curious to how a 35 profile tire would ride and how it would be in terms of practicality on 17s.
