17 x 8.5 +30 vs 17 x 9 +40

Considering a couple sets of wheels and wondering which you think would sit better with spoon rear over fenders and spoon wide front fenders?

17 x 8.5 +30

OR

17 x 9 +40

The 8.5 30's are going to stick out about 3mm more than the 9 40's so there is not that much of a difference between the 2.

It will also depend on what size tire you go with. The 17X9 can handle a wider tire than the 8.5.
