Hello,

JMO follows.

There are many posts related and multiple factors related to your request. Would recommend 10” wheels on rear for optional handling for a 255. See comment #15 on this post. Junky and Manga have great advise on this scenario:

Also, recommend checking out some calculators, a good one:

Either way yo go, if handling is a priority, then stiffer sidewalls are important. If meaty is what your going for, there will be some sacrifice(s).

Best to you!

Wow over a year later. I specifically said to run OEM ap2 wheels which are 17's (17x8.5 in the rear so wider than your 17x8's). I don't understand why you are asking about looks for 17x8 compared to AP1 wheels when I was saying OEM AP2 wheels.

Look better is subjective and I would argue would greatly depend on what angle you were looking at the car. I feel an 8 in the rear is going to look really narrow and sunken in while having the same 8 inch wide wheel in front will appear to poke out more. The same is true of 17x9 squared the front looks like it barely fits under the fenders while the rear looks like it had plenty of space. The S2000 does not have the same amount of space under the front fenders and rear quarter panels. That's not to say that there is no benefits of running a square setup but I would say looks is a good one. I would still argue that OEM AP2 wheels would look better than 17x8 squared on the car because of my reasons above. Beyond that 8 inch in the rear isn't ideal for running wider tires than a 245 and depending on the tire that could be pretty pinched.

No matter how good of a deal you are getting it is likely you would end up changing the wheels again to run a wider tire or end up not likely the look then you are better off saving the money for the setup you'll be happier with longer term. I say this having swapped out parts multiple times when I should have just waited saved and bought what I really wanted from the get go. I guess you could always buy a pair of 17x9's down the road if they are offered in an offset that fits the rear.

I have a stock height AP1 without fender work and the OEM AP2v1 rears fit well front and rear. 17x8.5 squared with either 245/40R17 or 255/40R17 squared works well.

You do need a small spacer up front if you are running the rears square. Minor stuff but it fits well, rides great, are cheap to replace, and grip very well. The extra 0.5 inch in width isn't something I do miss for the easier fitment.
