2 tires or 4?
I bought my S from Carmax in Oct. of '02 and they had just shod it with a new set of dunlop sport 5000s. I don't know much about the tires other than I think they are not very sticky. 8000 miles later my rears are due for a replacement. The fronts have about 60% tread left. I've done 2 track days at summit point on these tires and do not like the breakaway characteristics of the rear at all. So i need to know a couple of things. Would it be hazardous to replace the rears with OEM size S-02's and leave the fronts for now? The fronts still have plenty of tread left and I don't want to spend the extra money if it is not necessary. Also, how would this affect the balance of the car at the limit? Obviously it will add understeer, but will it be safe to take to the track this way? I don't know how much experience anyone has with the SP 5000s or any other 'longer wearing' tire, but any input would be appreciated. Thanks,
Jesse

Yes it would be dangerous especially when the car is driven hard. With the mixed tires the car would understeer badly when approaching the limits in the dry. I would not let you out on the track with that set up.

Ok, thanks Jim. looks like i'll be getting 4 new shoes then. One other question. It's been pretty well discussed that the rear S-02's are wider than their size suggests. Are the fronts wider as well, or are they closer to being actual 205's?
