Default 225/40/18 Tire Recommendations

Need some recommendations for 225/40/18 tires. Tread ratings above 300, i need them to last. I have Hankook K106 on the car now and they ok, but I am interested in what others are running or recommend. If we can, stay below $150.00 per tire. Z rating is not required, but min is H rating. Thanks for your help.

Why such a high tread rating? You're really going to compromise on the grip.

General Exclaim UHP work pretty well for $100 a tire from the rack.Test pretty well with a 380 treadwear. But liek PTHermes said... You're going to sacrifice lots of grip but will have a lot more life.

Life of the tire is the point, but I still want some grip. The Hankooks are a good compromise. I do not see the point in paying 200.00 per tire that only last 1/4 of the life of the 120.00 tire with similar performance. I researched the Nexan brand, but I have never had these on a car. I may just go back with the Hankooks.

You could afford 18" wheels, but you can't afford the best tires for them?

Like I said. General Exclaim UHP. Just look at em and compare em to other tires in its class. Also the tirerack test resuilts.

This is my 3rd set of tires on my 18 inch wheels. I have three cars that I maintain, and I do not think that 200.00 each for tires that do not last is a deal or considered the best. I am looking for the best overall tire around the range I see as the best deal. Sure I can afford 200.00 a piece tires, car is paid for, but do I think it makes sense when I drive the car on the actual road and not a track....no. My tires lasted about 3-4 years, and the factory tires made it 1 year. Others may think replacing tires every year is a deal, but I do not and I am willing to compromise.

What about the Sumitomo HTR Z III? I hear wonderful things about them.

And zdan, 18s aren't THAT expensive. My Kazera's from Tire Rack were under $600 for the wheels themselves. My Star Specs cost more than that. Now if he has the baller Volks, Advans, etc, then I could see your point.

The point is, don't buy 18" wheels if you don't like spending a lot on tires.
