They will fit. A bit pinched on the 7 inch wheel but not bad enough to be a concern. The 225 is the width of the tire. The 45 means the sidewall height is 45% of the width.

More on tire sizes.

Yeah you want to get rid of those wheels. Any idea what the offset is? I can't say if there is fitment issues without the offset. I'd look for some used oem ap2 wheels. You don't want 225 on the rear as you said it's much narrower than the oem 245.

Just to be clear:

225/45 front = yes
225/45 rear = no

Technically, they would fit on the rear wheel but it's just not a good idea to run 225 non-staggered. Acceptable combinations:

215/45, 245/40
215/45, 255/40
225/45, 255/40
225/45, 245/40 - personally would never run this combo, front tire is slightly larger diameter than rear.

I run 245/45-17 out back with 235/45-17 up front and have over 80k miles with those size tires on our '06 and like the way the car rides and handles on the street. So you should be able to run 225/45-17 tires with no problems.

The 225/45R17 fit wheels from 17X7 to 17X8.5 no problem front and rear although handling would not be ideal.

Which Nitto tires are you getting? I am looking at the NT05 in 225/45R17 front and 255/40R17 rear.
