Default 225 front 245 rear on ap1 wheels

I was wondering if 225/50/16 and 245/45/16 would be the best and/or widest setup that I could run on stock ap1 wheels. Has anyone had any experience with this setup and would it even work?

Yes, it will work fine. However, your only reasonable street tire option is the Hankook Z212 RS2 for the 245/45/16. I'd recommend a better tire - Bridgestone RE11, Dunlop Direzza Star Spec, Yokohama AD08, etc. Even though you'll have to run the 225/50/16 in the rear, they will probably provide more grip than the RS2.

Just my 2 cents.

You can also get Toyo Proxies T1-R in the 245/45/16, thats what I have been using. I'm debatin using the Direzza as mentioned, don't know how much of a difference (negative) the 225/50/16 will make.

Just for reference, my 225/50/R16 RE01Rs have almost 0.5" wider section widths than my 245/45/R16 Kumho v710s. The actual tread width is nearly the same. So, it's tough to say which tire will actually provide a larger contact patch. However, the extreme performance tires that are currently available offer better grip than the ultra high performance tires. Look at the R1R vs the T1R, for example. Treadwear of 140 vs a treadwear of 280. It's not a fair comparison between brands, but compared to the R1R, I'd guess the T1R doesn't offer nearly the same lateral grip as the extreme performance tires. Look at what all of the ST/STS/STR/STX/STU SCCA auto-x classes use and those will have the best grip, even if you have to sacrifice a bit of tread width to run them.

I've run on Direzzas, RE01Rs, RE11s and just picked up a set of Kumho XSs for track lapping. It's tough to feel the difference between any of them.

The non-staggered 225/50/R16 setup feels great on the AP1 with a moderately stiff FSB and an aggressive alignment (less rear toe in and as much negative camber/caster as you can get in the front with about -2.2* in the rear).

Hope that helps.

I agree with the orthers. There aer just much better handling tires in the stock sizes now. The best that we have tested head to head is the RE-11.
If I can help let me know.

i had toyo t1rs and now i have direzza... i love the traction of direzza more than the t1rs. so if you want performance tires i would recommend direzza over t1rs

I'm running Hankook RS-2s right now in 205/55 front and 245/45 rear and I like them. It's a grippy tire for what they are. I was coming from Toyo T1R's as my last tire and I was not impressed.

I had the Hankook's (in 205/50-16 F, 245/45-16 R). The dry grip was pretty good. The wet grip wasn't.

Dunlop *Specs in stock sizes have significantly more dry grip and WAY WAY more wet grip.

This is based on tracking the car in the wet and dry on both sets.
