Default 245/45 Vs. 245/50 ?

The recommended size for Dunlop SP5000 rears for the S2000 is 245/45/16.

I came across some used 245/50/16s for cheap. Whats the difference and would that cause problems on this car?

i wouldn't get them because they change the rolling diameter of the tire/wheel and that would be unsafe.

I wasn't sure ...

The second number is supposed to be the sidewall height measured as a percentage of the section width (first number).

Therefore: 245/45 = 45% of 245mm = 110.25mm
and: 245/50 = 50% of 245mm = 122.5mm

The difference is only 12.25mm or a little over a centimeter.

However, since this is the sidewall height, does this have to be doubled to figure difference in rolling diameter?

If thats the case, then it becomes 24.5mm and thats about an inch ...

So, the question remains ... does that make a big difference?

yes. it's best to get all tires with the same diameter or as close as you can get. .1 to .3 inches difference should be good.

I believe you would need to use a factor of 3.14 to ge the rolling diameter
