Default 255/40-17 widths?

I know all the extreme summer tires sized 255/40-17 are slighly different widths & the Tire Rack sizing chart is not all that accurate
For all those that have used the different popular brands, can you comment which is narrower or wider than the other?

Thanks

I know RS-3 and Z1 SS are known to run wide. I have a set of 255 NT-05's and they are not as wide as I would like and look tall for a 255.

Overall diameter: NT05=RS-3 > Z1 SS
Width: RS-3 = Z1 SS > NT05

Thats all the tires I have experience with, if any one wants to add more be welcome.

This is true but not as wide as R-S3 in 255/40/17. I have both on 9" wheels and R-S3 have somewhere around 1/8-1/4" wider tread width.

Good to know. I noticed on some sizes of the rs3 that the sidewall tucks in behind the rim like many R comps creating more of a sidewall bulge and reduced tire/fender clearance. Do you think this is what’s happening in your case, or is the tread width actually wider?

My 225/45 kumhos up front are the near identical tread width as the rear oem 245 RE50's

There is definitely a sidewall bulge compared to the kumhos. But the tread with is the only thing I care about/look at and it is noticably wider on on the hankooks. Im at school right now but Ill try to get some pictures up when I come back home.

I had R1Rs and Z1s on the same rim (17x9 TRwheels) side by side last weekend. The R1R is slightly narrower by a hair if that... Off the rims their widths are the same at about 10" wide. The R1R begs to be stretched IMO...
