Default 255s on 8" wheel

Is it smart/safe to put a 255/40 tire on an 8" wide wheel? Are there any drawbacks or possible problems with doing this?

The reason I'm asking is I really want to run Hankook RS3 tires on my wheels, but they're only 8" wide, and unfortunately they don't make the RS3s in a 245, and 235 or 225 seems like too little tire.

Any advice/help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
-Will

You could do it, but the sidewalls will be buldging out way past the rim. It would look like crap and you have a good chance of puncturing the tire if you scrap it against the curb.

I would look for a different tire...

You could do it but i think 235 or 225 is much better... Usually 225s go on 8"

I have a 245 on it now and it looks fine... 255 shouldn't be that much different, should it?

AutoX'ers have been doing this for years now.

I've run a 265/35/18 Kumho Xs on an 8" wide rim before (not on s2k) and run a full season of AutoX competition on it. No problems whatsoever.

They idea that you might puncture the tire on the curb is laughable.
As far as "looking like shit", beauty is in the eye of the beholder. The side wall curved inward some but "bulging" is an exageration. I liked the way it looked cuz it looked cuz it gave the impression that you had a big meaty tire. That isn't what the cool guys or the hellafail crowd runs but IMO their wimpy skinny tires look like shit too.

Thanks for the info! Definitely leaning towards doing it now.
