Default advice on tire sizes

I am purchasing a set of 17x8.5 front and 17x9.5 rears for my AP1. Wheels are +46 all the way around. I have a turbo car so i want as wide of a tire in the rear as i can get. My car is stock height. What do you guys suggest I should get. Keep in mind i want to go as wide as i can in the rear for traction.

If you want to run wide tires, you're buying the wrong wheels.

From the stickie above:

For the front:
6.5

so with a 255 tire i will be close... i can run some negative camber and roll the fenders before i do the wheels. that looks like its going to be my only option.

I'm running 245/45-16 rears on 16x8 +45 wheels, no problemo. You probably would have to roll the fenders to fit taller 255/40-17's on 1.5" wider wheels.

You're going to have problems at the front, though.

Yer rim widths vs. offsets are outta whack. Have you already bought these wheels?

this is correct you'll have to relocate the bumper bolt as well

you can run 255s on the OEM ap2 wheels which are 8.5". I thought you said you wanted the widest tire in the rear not the widest lip.

Your kinda kicking yourself in the face by getting such a wide wheel then only putting 255s on it.

I should rephrase that. I know i wasn't going to be able to run anything crazy wide due to the wheel widths and offsets. I was looking for the widest i can get given the situation. i was figuring 255's.

You would have exactly the same "lip" with a 10.5" wide wheel with a 59mm offset, and you could then run 275's.
