Default Ap1 with 265/40s on Ap2v3 wheels

Hi all. I'm a new s2000 owner. Picked up a very low mile 01 recently. Its in nearly mint condition- a key characteristic I looked for for a long time.

I plan on leaving it pretty much stock except to update the wheels to the more recent ap2's.

I've got a set of ap2v3's on the way. Would running 215/265 (vs 215/255) help to reduce the oversteer nature of the early AP1's?
Is anyone running this setup on their AP1?

Thanks all. Loving this car. Can't wait for it to warm up so I can drive it more.

265 is to wide for the 8.5 inch wide wheel. Get a good sticky 255 and you will be fine.

Its also taller then a 255/40 which is still taller then the stock 245/40, so its really going to become counter productive on the rear of a tail happy car. If your running height adjustable coilovers you can compensate for this, but your not.

Congrats on the purchase Ive got an 01 as well. I prefer the sway bar weight and bias on these early 00-01 years, they are more lively and fun, and arguably faster if you can hang on to it

Thanks. Really enjoying the car. Very fun to drive - and still learning its limits. The taller sidewall issue makes sense.

While the tail happy nature in and of itself does not scare me (actually wanted a AP1 due to its more raw nature), I do fear an unexpected spin that happens w/o warning- which seems to be a characteristic of the early MY's. Its not a DD so I don't plan to drive it in the rain - which I will obviously minimize the risk.

I'll stick with the 255's. I'm sure they'll be plenty sticky - also appear to be more choices to choose from.

Well, here's a 9" wheel with 265/40 rears I had a few years ago.

My suggestion would be stay the same bias as an ap2(215/245) or (225/255) which is already a difference between the ap1 bias(205/225). If you want to go even further then I would suggest getting an ap2 front and rear sway bar setup. Bear in mind this is going to be a tame setup and was designed to understeer so if you still have issues at this point then perhaps its time to get to know your car better and start attending auto X's and/or track days(especially if you fear the cars characteristics). Best to prepare yourself for "when" it happens and know what to do in the situation than not to.

Here is a guy that put 265/40-17 on stock wheels and he has pic's to show how it looks. I think he is dropped about 1 1/2"

This is just the opposite of overly stretching tires and it is just as stupid. You shouldn't be worried about how a tire looks on a wheel you should be concerned with how the tire is preforming. There are optimal tire sizes for the width of wheel for a reason. You can continue to shove a wider and wider tire onto a wheel but you aren't actually widening the contact patch enough to warrant the reduction in sidewall stiffness you will experience.
