Default AP2V1 on AP1, Too heavy?

I truly wanted to keep my AP1 strictly AP1 but I have a seller that has a set with tires for sale for a really good deal. I was wondering if they ride heavy and lethargic? I am lowered on Bilestein PSS

You will be completely fine, the added weight of the rim will be balanced out by the reduced weight of the tire from decreasing of the tire profile on the AP2 wheels/tires. Have fun with the new grip levels And Post pics!

Yup, my ap1 was sluggish off the line with the Ap2 v1. I noticed a difference when I went back to ap1 wheels.
But it did handle great, a whole lot more grip and high speed stability...

From my experience the diameter of the tire makes a bigger difference in feel than slightly different weight wheels & tires. I've gone back and forth with completely OEM 16 and OEM 17 and didn't feel any difference. But I can definitely feel the difference if the diameter is bigger, like with many aftermarket 245/40/17 and most 255/40/17 tires. Going to lightweight CE28 wheels wasn't very noticeable when using the exact same tire. And thats a fairy significant a difference of about 6 lbs per wheel.

I always thought that the OEM 17' and OEM 16' weights were similar.

i already saw a japanese video (Tsuchiya and co) talking about that.

comparing AP1 vs AP2 OEM tires shows the AP2 tires are actually slightly smaller in diameter---not enough to make much of a difference but it means there won't be slower acceleration from using AP2 wheels on an AP1 (assuming OEM sized tires) as smaller tires actually accelerate faster.


Potenza S-02 diameters in AP1 OEM size--front 25.0----rear 24.8

Potenza Re050 diameters in AP2 OEM size---front 24.8----rear 24.6

naturally if you change brands or sizes of tires, this could change but OEM to OEM, the AP2 tires are slightly smaller in diameter

Great info, I held back from buying them cause they had some nankin tires. Should have bought them though since they were clean without curbage . I'll just wait till I find them forsale again. I want to collect all of the OEM wheels made for the S2000, they all look great. Looking for the 02-03 ones as well, I dig the darker tone AP1 wheels.

Unfortunately the specs from the tire manufacturers and Tire Rack are not always accurate.

They should look virtually identical in height--- there's only 2/10 of an inch difference between them in diameter when they're both new and mounted on wheels. The tread depth is more than 3/10 of an inch deep so depending on wear, one tire can look taller. ( it's 3/10 deep on the top and bottom so the tire will "shrink" in diameter more than a half inch as it wears. )

Plus, as s2ka points out, manufacturing tolerances may come into play comparing any two individual tires. The diameters listed by the manufacturer are the "engineering" specs--- the actual tire may come out of the mold slightly different.

s2ka-- thanks for posting the pix--- it does show the two tires to be so close that there would be little or no effect on speedometer calibration or acceleration so folks can interchange them and not impact either
