ap2v1 painted
decided to paint the ap2v1s i just picked up over the weekend. Sanded for about 4 hours, primed them, wet sanded them, and sprayed the gold.
the pictures make them seem more bronze than they really are. In person these are a very vibrant, bright gold. Couldnt be more happier with the way the turned out
lemme know what you think.
these will be going on my 03 gpw.

I am. Do you recommend anything to stop it. The back of the paint said that they do not recommend clear coat with this paint, but I figured clear was going to be my protection from the elements
im curious..
why does it say not to clear them?
i would think thats a very much needed step. esp for wheels.
i was planning on painting my spare set.
what paint did you use?
the steps i was planning on doing was
- strip the factory clear coat using aircraft remover
- scrub with metal brush
- Sand from 400 - 1000 grit
- clean with acetone
- primer
- Wet sand with 1000
- paint 3 or so layers of base
- 3 or so layers of clear
- wet sand with 2000 grit
- buff
from the research ive done, this is a good way to do it.
i may just say screw it and get them powder coated.
material cost would be close to $100 if i buy the good stuff.
not to mention the hours it would take for me to do this..
i can get them coated prob for around $300 total

Nah I'm still looking to pick up some tires ATM. Probably some hankook ventus. But I will def post some pictures when they are all mounted. Bought some black Honda decals to put on the center caps as well as some nice OEM figment anodized blue lugs. Should look pretty good.
As for the clear coat yeah dude I am really not sure why that is. I think it's because they guarantee their glossy finish and cear might compromise that. I am probably going to anyways haha but I forget what I used ATM but it wasn't incredibly cheap andnI really liked the shade of gold. I did pretty much the same steps as you have listed but I cleaned with hand soap and water rather than acetone etc.
