Thumbs up Best dry tire

My '01 S2000 will need tires pretty soon. It has the stock rims, front and back.

What is the best performing tire I can get? (handling, etc.)

I live in FL, so I don't need an all weather tire, I.E. snow ect.

Also, the weird thing is, right now it has 205/55R16s in the front and 245/45R16s in the rear. (I bought the car it used) But every online thing I've looked at, says I need 205/55R16 in the front and 225/50R16 rear. Do I have the wrong size on it now?

if you get b-stone s02 205/225 is the right combo. other brand 245 matches the width of s02 225.

affordable sets that's very good on dry:
205/245 hankook rs2

expensive set that's excellent on dry:
205/225 bridgestone s02

if kumho MX is available in your sizes, those are equally as good as s02 in my opinion.

It sounds like the previous owner knew exactly what he was doing. Most shops don't know this and will recommend 205/225 versus the correct size 205/245.

Here is the thread that explains the rear tire size anomoly:
https://www.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=48572

The "best" tire for dry grip tends to be (by general concensus) the original SO2s meant for the S2000 (not to be mistaken for the SO2s for all other cars).

Ok, so can someone condense all that thread, and just tell me the exact size that will fit front and rear?

SO2=205/55/16 Front,and 225/50/16 Rear.
And this is the best dry performance street tire you can get in 16"

There are two listings for the Bridgestone Potenza S-02 in the 205/55/16 and 225/50/16 sizes. Quite some time ago, Tirerack had a listing that was S2000 specific. They also had (and still have) a listing specific to Porsche. Porsche has their very own speed and tire rating system even though they do not manufacture the tires themselves. The tire manufacturer (Bridgestone in this case) manufactures these tires per Porsche's specifications. These tires are N rated. N is specific to Porsche automobile's. The 3 after the N on the Tirerack's listing, means that there have been several updates to this particular model of tire made by Bridgestone. What this means is, if Bridgestone makes another update to this model of tire, it would be rated as N4. The Z shown after the aspect ratio on this tire denotes it as being tested at up to, but not more than 149 mph. They do not specify any particular speed rating associated with the N rating

The listing on the Tirerack website no longer specifies the OEM tire for the AP1 S2K as an S2000 specific tire. It just list's these tires as W rated. I am pretty sure these are the same exact tires as before when Tirerack listed them exclusively for the S2k. These tires are W rated, are OEM for the AP1 S2K but not exclusive to the S2K. They are just listed as being W rated.

By the way, W rated tires are tested at speeds of up to 168 mph. The only tires that are rated at higher speeds would be Y (186 mph) and a Y in parentheses (Y) (in excess of 186 mph)

So when you bring up the the listing on Tirerack, The proper tire for the AP1 is listed as a W rated tire.

Sorry for writing a book.
