holy nuts! they are super cheap,. wonder why its such a big difference. Hopefully the tire is just as good.
By all accounts they are much better than the RE-11, Bridgestone just finally woke up on their pricing.

I will be mounting my RE-11A's sometime this month when my RE-11 are all used up. There was no way I would be getting the RE-11 again unless I got another great deal like this time, so happy Bridgestone dropped their prices so much. The RE-11 has been so perfect for my needs I really didn't have any reason to try any other tire other than price. So happy that is no longer an issue.
Bridgestone did not "wake up" on their pricing.

$80 dollar entry rebate. Prices will go back up. Get a set while its cheap.

Yeah. They did. A set of RE-11s used to go for close to $900 for a set of 225/255s. Unless there is an $80 rebate per tire. The price has fluctuated quite a bit since they hit tire rack, but I don't see anything mentioning any rebate?

According to Bridgestone (who is sending us tires and whom we have a long standing relationship with), the RE-11A was purposely re-positioned price wise to make it more competitive. As things stand now, they are cheaper than the ZIIs. The RE-11 was a phenomenal tire that was often overlooked due to them being priced out of the market. They wanted to fix that. I believe they have succeeded. I'll have a better idea the performance of the tire after this weekend and about 2000 miles.

Do you know if the RE-11A is strictly a compound change? Or have they tweaked the belt package and tire construction at all?

We'll see if the price holds a few months from now. I'm not holding my breath.

Pretty sure its just a compound change. It seems to be a place holder tire until they can release the RE-11 successor

Yeah all the Japanese manufactures will make a tire, then give it a compound change only for the next generation, then completely redesign it for the following two generations. Reminds me of what Apple does with the iPhone (3,3s,4,4s,5...ect)

For example:
Dunlop Z1 -> Dunlop Z1 "star spec" ->Dunlop ZII -> Most likely a Dunlop ZII "star spec" in 4 years or so
Potenza RE-11 -> Potenza RE-11"A"
Neova AD08 -> Neova AD08"R"

They can name it whatever they want as long as it performs

It only makes sense to change the name slightly for tread and or different compounds. Tires are branded by their name as much as say a car or plane is. I know for a fact they changed the compound. Last year they held a big test event down in AZ at Firebird and I talked with my buddy about it and then shortly after they changed the compound due to so so driver feedback. They put a lot of developement in their tires which is why you'll see it on more OEMs versus hankook and dunlop. I'll actually consider them now due to the price drop. Sad that not even my buddy could get me a discount to make the RE-11 cheaper than the Dunlop Z1 Star Spec which was a shame. That was before dunlop starting hiking up their prices as well.
