Default CONFUSED! need tires

Running stock ap1 wheels with stock suspension. Rear tires are shot dead and my fronts have about 50-60% left (potenza s02s)

I just read that I should run 245/45/16 in the rear if not running on OEM tires. I plan on purchasing different tires because I don't want to run s02s at the moment. But looking through tire rack, they're very few limited choices for tires in that size range. Any suggestions what tires I should get?

Also this will be for street driving with some spirited driving.

alright......... i was in the same spot as you were last fall. I was on a budget, but also needed a tire to run on street/track. I opted to run the Hankook RS-2's (z212 i think), in the:

205-55-16 Front
245-45-16 Rear

hope this helps you out. For the price, nobody can touch the tires. The falken rt-615's are great, but don't provide any wet traction, which i needed for the street driving. They both have a treadwear of 200, but the hankook saves you about $10 a tire.
check out edgeracing.com they has some sick deals on them.

GOOD LUCK!

I too was on a pretty tight budget when I was shopping for tires for my ap1...

...I ended up going with the dunlop direzzas in a 205/225 stagger. I also went with the UK spec alignment with 4 degrees caster in the front instead of 6.

So far, I have been very pleased with this set-up. Some people have told me the car would be too tail happy without a 245 on the rear, but I have taken the car to the mountains in n ga, va, and tenn (yes, even a pass on deals gap) with no problems.

(granted, the car had kumhos on it when I bought it, so my confidence in the car could also be a result of moving away from the kumhos).

Hope this helps.

Most of the 245/45R16 tires have been discontinued. I would say that the Fuzion ZRI and the Conti Sport Contact would be the best handling. The Fuzion would be the best price at 77.00 front and 91.00 rear.
If I can help let me know.

The Hankook RS2's are great tires on the street and at the track (considering they're street tires), IMO.

You're doing yourself a disservice by not considering tires that come in 225/50-16 but not 245/45-16. Bridgestone RE050A Pole Positions and RE01R's in particular. Either of those in 225/50-16 will stick better than lesser-performance tires in 245/45-16.

IMO, 205/55-16 F, 225/50-16 R is totally acceptable on the AP1, and often the best tires for intended usage are available in those sizes.

What is most important for you regarding tires? Maximum dry grip (i.e., you never drive in heavy rain or standing water)? Maximum combination wet and dry grip? Life?

your crazy if you didn't go with a 245 rear!
I've run on three different 225/50/16's (and two different 245/45-16's) at the back of the car, on the street, at the track, in the rain, in the snow. It ain't no big deal. At all.

I don't *think* I'm crazy, but then again how would I know?

O no, it's absolutely fine to sun some 225's. Don't get me wrong. IMHO, i just feel they look too small, that is unless you do the stock tire in the back. If you don't, then aesthetics wise i would recommend a pair of 245's for the back. Hell... if you really don't care too much or can't make up your mind, then roll with whatever brand is cheaper in the size you want. (RS2's, the way to go, but once again just my opinion. I wasn't trying to step on anyone's toes, ma-bad.)

thanks for everyones help. I will be doing some wet condition driving. So I might consider just going with 225s in the rear for daily driving as there are not much choice for 245s in the rear. But are hankook rs2 good in wet conditions? those tires seem for track use. kind of like azenies?
