Continental ExtremeContact DW's
Prior experience:
Stock Ap1 S2k: Dunlop wintersport M3
STi on KW V3s: RE070s, Azenis Rt-215, S-03s, Kuhmo XS
3K miles on my DWs thus far:
Road: Awesome. 33psi, an almost creamy feeling. very, very quiet. I can't imagine a pure road tire having a much better ride. The steering is a touch vague on-center, but once you give it an instant to settle in and "load" the sidewalls its fine. Excellent rain, and braking traction.
Track: Did a track day with autointerests.com at Gingerman. ran counter-clockwise. Played around with tire pressure and ended up around 39psi. In the morning was cooler ~ high 70s. Temperatures spiked up to low 90s after the cloud cover went away in the afternoon. With lower temperatures, the grip is fantastic. High grip levels, progressive breakaway, good feel. The softer tirewall has it downsides. Fast transitions take an extra milisecond to settle. And the hairy downhill semi-blind braking zone into turn 10 gives a little pucker as the car needs to settle. The more I flogged the tires and the temperatures went up, the tires did become greasy and give up some grip. However, this was all very progressive. Took one lap at 8/10, and the grip came back. Not nearly as on/off as the Azenis.
Overall, love them. Great price. good DD tire. Especially since they came with a free Nook! (if it comes in the mail)
