You are most likely using the wrong kind of lugnuts. The taper may not be compatable with the rim hole. This is quite evident whenever someone uses OEM lugnuts on, for example, Volk CE rims. Without the proper lugnuts, the paint takes a beating around the holes.

Sorry, a picture may not help you as I don't know the exact type of lugnuts you need for those rims. I used the Volks as an example only.

Doesn't the lug cover the area when it's in place?

Yes, but the paint goes right down into the bevelled part of the hole. If the taper of the lugnut doesn't match the taper of the hole, undue pressure is placed on the walls of the hole. The paint chips and in time, begins to peel back from the hole. Certainly, the area is covered, but the fact the paint chipped is an indication that the wrong lugnut has been used.

it was to my understanding that I obviously have the wrong lug nuts, do you mind if you show me where to purchase the correct ones?

Well I used to have SSR Comps (type C is the same wheel, right?) on my E46 M3, and the paint in the conical portion chipped off under the lug after only a few mount/dismount cycles (proper lugs were used). I figured I could call that normal considering the 5 tons of force a lug places on a wheel over a very small area. However when the lugs were on, you could not see that area and the rest of the paint was fine.

So I don't know if chipping paint could indicate that a wrong lug was definitely used.

I was stating experience rather than a "rule". I use the Volk rims as my example. I and another S2000 owner has the exact same rims. I used the lugnuts that were supplied with the rims and the other owner used different lugnuts not knowing there was any difference. His are all chipped at every hole. Mine are fine.
