drag race setup
hey, i am sorry i am not sure if this belongs here or in the racing forum. i quite drag racing for a while now or it has been awhile since i dragged raced. i am currently running ap2v3 rims. i am looking into purchasing some cheap cheap rims for this one time race or possibly race wheels. on my current setup i have star specs in the front and hankooks v12 in the rear. i do know that i should not be running different tires especially since i autocross.
the rules of this drag race is that i must run 100 or 140 treadwear street tire. and i cannont run drag radials or slicks to stay within my class. i am not sure if i can run federal 595-r r-compound or not. but my question is will my current setup with 255 hankook v12 at 280 treadwear be just as good as a 225 hankook rs-3 with a treadwear at 140? the hankook v12 has a tread width of 8.7 inches and the rims that i am looking into purchasing is the ap1 rims. the tires that i would be running are the 225 rs-3 with a tread width of 8 inches. the difference is only .7 inches. i am sure the rs-3 will out perform the v12. but does the .7 inches increase the static friction of the v12 to be much greater than the rs-3?
another question i would like to ask and i know that the s2k is not meant to drag race. is the v12 even a decent tire to drag race with? i know the tire came in second in the car and driver comparison but they did not include a lot of tires. does the tire grip well, does it produce a lot of static and kinetic friction? is there too much wheel spin?
the reason why i am so interested in this drag race is that i stand a chance in the new rules that put me in a slower class that i can become competitive and it is 1000 ft. the pay out is $1168 per class.
