Dunlop z1,vs Khumo XS...

...R-11,and Yoko AD-08 are too expensive s...
So,my choice,is between,Z-1(Dunlop),and XS(Kumho)...

Looking for Max dry cornering; don't care about noise,and/or comfort;don't drive my car in the rain,(if caught in a downpour, drive very slowly...)

Prices are about the same...which would you choose ???

Leaning toward the Kumho...

The XS have better dry traction and the Dunlop have better all around performance since they have better wet traction. And I believe the dunlop have higher treadwear.

doesn't a lower treadwear = softer tire = better grip?

ZDan 08-15-2009 02:49 AM

Don't go by the treadwear number. They are definitely NOT an absolute indicator of grip when comparing between manufacturers, or even between different tires from the same manufacturer.

Regarding the XS having "better dry traction", this is only supported in the dry skidpad test, and doesn't translate into a dry slalom, lap time, or stopping distance advantage. What the tests *do* indicate is that the Dunlops have greater wet traction.

Dry slalom time: Dunlop 3.97, Kumho 4.00
Dry lap time: Dunlop 29.05, Kumho 29.05
Dry stopping distance: Dunlop 79.6, Kumho 81.0
Dry cornering g's: Dunlop 0.97, Kumho 1.01

Wet slalom time: Dunlop 4.12, Kumho 4.29
Wet lap time: Dunlop 30.38, Kumho 31.29
Wet braking distance: Dunlop 84.6, Kumho 94.9
Wet cornering g's: Dunlop 0.90, Kumho 0.84

So,does this means,I should go with Dunlop ???

Would they last longer than the XS ???

ans2k 08-15-2009 06:05 PM

i would go with dunlop but i am short on money. and maybe, depends on how you use them.

I replaced my Star Specs with the XS, and will probably go back to the Star Specs once the XSs are done.

xs sucks in rain. even though you wont drive fast in the rain, its more like the day after it rains and you fit standing water. but i have VSA! VSA FTW!!!
