Looks good. I was wanting to so something similar but since it is cold here in Utah these days, I have had to put my project off till spring.

i did the same thing with the gun metal paint. This was over a year ago, the wheels have held up great. the clear coat gives it a very smooth glossy finish. I followed almost exactly the same steps as you. Ill see if i can find some pictures

Nice work! I did the same thing last spring on my autocross rims but with Home Depot multipurpose paint. They've held up great!

bump for anyone else looking to do this - I just finished painting mine bronze, but with dark gray primer instead and here's the color I ended up with:
