Eternal Question about Tires
I have a 2001 S2k with stock wheels, lowered with Ground Control coil-overs (adjustable). The front tires are well worn and will need to be replaced in the next couple months.
The current tires are Michelin Pilot Sport A/S in the stock sizes.
I got the car the night of the SC/Texas game and have put about 3500 miles on it since then. I anticipate this mileage every month so longer life is important. Additionally, cost is a factor since no tire that I put on this car is going to last me more than a year or so.
What I am looking for is an inexpensive tire with good tread life. Ultimate grip is not nearly as important as good feedback and progressive breakaway. Predictability is better than grip. I typically drive 75 on the cruise control in the mornings (freeway) and then get to drive Hwy138/173 (California) on the way home. This road has very tight switchbacks and can be sandy in places. I rarely get over 65-70 on this road. The road is about 15-20 miles so it's not like I am doing a track day and really getting some heat into the tires.
I would like to do a track day at some point but will get tires specifically for that when the time comes.
I have been looking at the Kumho ASX (liked the Kumho 711s on my 5.0) and the Falken Ziex.
Thanks for your opinions.
