Found a solution that will not require longer wheel studs!!!


For anyone who searches s2ki and has a similar problem, here is what you need:




If you buy wheels that the center is too thick to thread your lug nts onto by more than 2-3 rotations, this will give you another 1/2" of thread, and at 1.5mm pitch that is over 8 rotations! This 70 bucks is a lot better than the cost of extended studs.

Gorilla part # 21038 for bulk lug nuts or 21733 for a 5lug+key package.

EDIT: I think you have something confused. Acorn and Ball are different, while Acorn and Conical appear to be the same thing....see below 2 posts.

just look at the lug hole on the wheel. if it's round ball hole, use ball lug. if not, use conical.

Alright so now I am totally confused. People here keep saying that Acorn and Conical are two different things, yet Gorilla specifically states that:

"All Acorn Lug Nuts have a 60* conical seat" right here on their lug nut guide:



I believe (based on this) that "acorn" and "conical" are the same, but a "spherical" or "Ball" seat is the OEM Honda one. I think the terms just get all mixed up. When Gorilla goes on to talk about Lug Bolts, they show what they call a ball seat vs a cone seat:



Everything I can find on the spec of an "Acorn" says 60* angle, and everything I can find on "Conical" also says 60* angle.


I is confused.

Acorn, or tapered, seat lug nuts are characterized by a bottom area that tapers inward at a 60 to 90 degree angle. For acorn style lug nuts to seat properly it is important that the angle at the bottom of the lug nut correctly match the angle of the hole drilled in the wheel. Acorn seat style lug nuts can be found stock on some American- and Japanese-made vehicles and are also the style that most aftermarket wheels require for installation.

Mag Seat Style with Washer
Mag seat style lug nuts are cone shaped with a straight shank at the bottom. In addition to the lug nut itself, most mag seat style nuts require a washer to properly secure a wheel to a vehicle. The shank of a mag seat lug nut is normally 1/4 inch long, and the style is commonly used to assist in centering a wheel onto a vehicle's wheel studs.

Ball/Round Seat Style
Ball seat style lug nuts can be identified by a rounded edge at the bottom of the nut, as opposed to the straight angle taper of an acorn seat style. Rounded seat styles are commonly, although not exclusively, found on Honda or Acura vehicle wheels. Ball seat style lug nuts should never be used interchangeably with acorn/taper style or mag lug nuts because they will not seat properly and may cause unsafe driving conditions.

So again it appears that:

Conical=Tapered=acorn style

which is not the same as:

Ball=sherical=round style


You can see Gorilla's replacement for Honda lug nuts that has a rounded seating area and no angle shown:



Where the "Acorn" style shows a 60* angle, as do the "conical" ones they list:

Just order the ARP studs, install them, and check if the wheels fit w/ the cover. If they don't fit, then measure how much stud needs to be removed, and pull the wheel off. Then get an open ended lug nut (Autozone has them for liek $1)and thread it all the way onto the stud. Mark each stud w/ the measurement you took earlier, and cut. When you remove the lug it will fix the threads.

Cheap and easy.

Well, the ARP studs are only 80 bucks or so, which is cheap. However, in order to install them the hubs have to come off, and the bearings replaced. Around 4-500 bucks total doing most of the labor myself.

I think these "extended" lug nuts that go down into the wheel by .3-.5" would be much easier and cheaper. If we could bang our studs out from behind, like some cars, without removing the hub, that would be cheap and easy.

I would also go for the lugs rather then swap everything out...

What BBS rims are they and can you take a pic with the lug cover off and post this up.

They are conical/acorn seats 100% I checked them out.

They are an uber-rare and discontinued rim made by Stern for BBS back in 1996. I found a tuner shop that had bought them back in 1997 and put them in storage brand spanking new! They must have been tight on money because they put 3 sets up on ebay. If you google "BBS Stern" you will see how rare they are. Only one set ever sold on here...

They look a lot like BBS LM only the center + lugs get covered by a cap:




So stoked to put them on. Lugs should be here today or tomorrow. Gonna need suspension to get them to not look funny. Pss9 will be ordered in next couple days.
