Default Help JIM!

I'm getting to that point where i realize I should not buy such expensive tires. I only drive aggressive about 4 days out of the year and i do plan on auto X but never have time, i also to occasional enjoy the back twisty roads of Arkansas. But other than that, i waste the rest of the tire in a little small town of Conway with its tons of stop-and-go traffic and crappy, and low-budget roads filled with crack, bumps and pot holes.

I would like a tire to last quiet a bit. When I do drive aggressive, I drive insane aggressive (on course only on a drive though with a large group of other insane S drivers). I have been through 6 sets of tires with no track times or auto x in 60K. i would also like it to handle very well. Low cost is a big factor too.

If i had to assign a number on a scale of 1 to 5 of importance. 1 being i could not care less and 5 being need to be perfect. dry grip would be 4; wet would be 3; Cost would be 4 (for a 255/40/17 i would like it to be 130ish at most), noise would be 3; there will be no snow, treadwear would be 4.

I've been on this forum long enough to see what people are running, like the HTR Z III. But, I don't just want to jump on the band wagon. I haven't done a peticular search but for the years I've been a member n here and before that I was just a person who would peak in, I would come to this section and read lot about the tires. I see some tires like Continental ExtremeContact DW that are in the same price range, and they have i higher treadwear. And yes, I know that number is not an accurate representation of how long the tire will last. I, also, notice that there is Kumho Ecsta LE Sport in the same class. I have also seen another type of Kumhos on here that was recommended.

What are your opinions and experiences? I know I will get "my tires are the best." I don't care how you feel but your honest opinions of the tires.

I also been on tire rack and read a lot of the reviews for the tires I were/are interested in. I did see Hankook V12 and some people on the forum were not to please with them.

Thank you,
Nguyen

P.S. Grammar police, I tired my best. Come check it out. What did i miss?

Based on the reviews I read, and how the Continentals ranked so close to the Michelin PS2s in TireRack's test, going with them over the Sumitomos was a no-brainer for me. They'll be on my car soon, so I'll let you know how they are.

I have those Sumitomos. I drive somewhat like you are talking about...only aggressive every once in a while. It is hard to compare them to previous tires because you remember the previous set of tires when it is worn so everything new seems so much better. Their load rating is 94Y, which is higher than OE, so I think I read that makes the road noise a little bit more.

Hankook V12 EVO K110. I'm not too sure how long they will last yet but the pricing should make up for that if they last no longer than my RE050A PPs.

From what I hear mostly, people feel like they're too spongy, but once they're broken in, people love them. I've driven these tires on a 350Z and a BMW and they felt great on both cars.

The Hankook and the Sumitomo are good handling tires and a bargain price. They are good options on the car.

I feel like Sumi's tread wear out way too fast for its rating. That 300 treadwear is BS

I just got the Sumitomo HTRZ III's (225/255 setup) and I was able to hang with the "fast group" on our local s2000 drive in the twisties. My prior tires were the Star Specs.

For the Sumitomo's: I can confirm...
the price is good,
the grip is good enough (about what you'd expect comparatively),
the wear cannot be commented on yet (@ ~ 1k miles now)

As Jim reminded me when I consulted him prior to my purchase: "S2000s chew through back tires".
