help please with my Simmons wheels
I need some input/help...I have a set of 17" Simmons 3 piece wheels that I widened. I replaced the outers on the rear wheels with a 1” wider lip. The rear wheel is now 17” x 9” +57 offset
After the alteration I put the 255-40-17” tires back on and they are a bit stretched looking. I am not happy with the look of the tire and would like to maybe go to a wider tire to fix it  How much trouble am I looking at doing this, will my car look like crap with wider tires, should I go back to my old outers? In hindsight I should have ordered a ½” wider and not the 1” Before, https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...5ce41155b5.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...79d124f571.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...791b28a0d5.jpg After, https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...42b1dac8d6.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...c2004e8c89.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...b4ed480ee1.jpg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...ea0eeea201.jpg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...adcc0202f5.jpg |
Looks good to me Ben. The stretched look would help me clear them easier on my lowered car. But in your case I suppose a wider tire wouldnt neccessariy rub. Good luck. Hopefully Jim chimes in soon

I talked with Jim yesterday on kind of the same subject. I want to get my AP2v2 rears widened to a 9.5. I was trying to figure out a tires size that comes in the 265.40 size so it won't be so tall on the wheel. The 275.40 is about an inch taller than my front wheels, running 215 45 azenis. I want to stay on stock wheels for my sleeper status, lol. I just haven't seen a set of wheels in the last year that I have been looking that I like enough to purchase for the car. I just keep putting more power on it instead.
I will likely end up running the Mickey thompsons et streets on the rear with a 275.40 and just live with the added height. It will probably help me with hearing some, as this car spins 4th gear currently. Ill keep a lookout for what the 265 40 looks like when you get it. I know the new dunlop direzza star spec is suppose to come in that size, and everyone here seems to love those tires. |
I agree, they look great!

I orderd a new set of Bridgestone Potenza RE750 size 265-40-17" and 225-45-17"
I will post new pics after the install Thanks for the positive comments :) |
The Potenzas are here :D going to have them mounted today, stand by for pics.

Mounted the new Bridgestone Potenza tires today and they look good to me :) I measured my offsets again with the tires off this time
The front wheels are 17" x 7.5" +48 offset The rear wheels are 17" x 9" +57 offset Tire size is front 225-45-17" Rear tire size is 265-40-17" I used a 3 mm T1R Forged wheel spacer on the front so that the front tires would track better with the wider rears. I guess this would make the fronts now a + 51 Going with the 265 in the rear took care of the stretched look I was getting with the 255 but, I will have to roll the fenders a little because, the right side did rub on a hard corner. My alignment is within factory US specs right now but, I’m thinking about going UK spec, what do you think? I will post better pics after I clean the car and wheels. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...0e15d3e371.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.s2k...0858037991.jpg |
What front lip is that? The one that goes under the JDM lip.

Looks good Ben. I like the looks of the tire and it does square up better than the 255. They look nice being that flush. I used 20mm spacers to accomplish the same on my AP2v2s.
A little more camber than UK spec wouldn't hurt you. I'm running 2.8 and no wear problems yet on my 17s. Not saying you have to go that aggressive but it wouldn't neccessarily shorten the life dramaticly. Yet the UK spec before you go to crazy with rolling/flaring. Might accomplish what you need. |
