Default Help upgrading wheels for AP1 (Maintain performance)

Hello all, I just purchased my S a month ago and I've been soaking up all this information from the different sections. I read through the FAQ on wheel fitment and I believe I have a better understanding, but it's still a little confusing.

First and foremost, I'd like to keep the performance of my S2000. For the foreseeable future, I'd keep my stock suspension (no lowering for awhile).

With that said, I really like the looks of the Enkei RPF-1 and Work Emotion CR KAIs. What would the optimal wheel size and offset be for me?

17x7 in the front and 17x8 in the rear? Should I go with AP2 tire sizes? 17x7 with 215 tires in the front and 17x8 245 in the rears? Or will that be too much tire for my AP1. What offset should I try to find? Is there a popular size that stays close to OEM?

I'd like to apologize if this information has been beaten to death, I read the FAQ and tried to learn before making this thread.

Edit: Browsing through the vendors selling RPF1s, most of them carry 17x8 for the front and 17x9 for the rear. I haven't seen 17x7 and 17x8. Would this be too much wheel for an AP1?

8"/9" is not too much wheel and IMO is a perfect fit for 215/245 tires. +45 is the highest offset available in RPF1, will be more aggressive than stock but you shouldn't rub at stock height.

Don't bother getting wheels until you lower it. AP1s are 1/2" higher than AP2s and its not going to look right unless you lower it.

The cheapest and safest way to maintain the stock performance will be to get a set of AP2 wheels and tires. Stock AP2 wheels are 17x7 +55 up front and 17x8.5 +65 rears. 215/245 tires.

8/9, 225/255 is perfect. Are you okay with rolling the fenders though? If not then you need to look for wheels with an offset of at least 50.

Yup. And even better with 225 F/255 R.

Thanks for the advice guys I really appreciate it.

Looks like I'm going to have to go back to the drawing board and figure out the best way to lower my vehicle.

Yea I have to aggree with lowering it. I bought aftermarket wheels and they really bring out the wheel gap. Got a eibach pro-kit and now its perfect.

The best and least expensive way to lower the car is on a set of good springs. I prefer Swift Spec-R springs for a good drop all around and an increase in performance.

As for the wheels, many people run 17x8/17x9 set ups just fine. Ive seen people run 17x7/17x8 set ups and also 17x8 all around setups. I'd be partial to the 17x8 set up as I prefer the way a non-staggered set up handles, plus it gives you the ability to rotate your tires front to rear.

If we can help with anything, please let us know.

I went with Espelirs (no longer made) and love my drop. I hear that Swift springs are very comparable.

I had Espilirs on my street car before I had coils and like the drop - but I never liked how the rear was dropped a tad more than the front. I loved them, but that rear being lower look was always a pet peeve of mine. I prefer the more even drop of the swifts now.
