Default how do you tell

hey all,

quick/stupid question from a guy who doesn't know better - please don't flame me.

I'm gonna go look at some rims that a guy is selling (ap2 v1 rims). He says that they are black, but isn't sure if they are powdercoated or painted, but that the guy he bought them from had it done at a shop.

How does one tell if it is painted or powdercoated? I know powdercoating is better, but if the paint job is ok, is that decent too? Do I have to worry about the paint peeling off?

Thanks!

Powdercoating has more of a "grain-ey" look to it (i.e. Very similar to a Valve Cover) where as Painting has a smoother finish due to the texture used for Paint and the clear coat effect. That's how I see them differently anyway BTW I had mine painted and they've lasted me thus far.
