How far to roll fenders?
Hey guys and girls, I'm pretty new here. I've had my MY2000 AP1 for only a few weeks and I'm loving the car so far. I'm looking to fit my rims from my previous car onto the S. They're really nice wheels as they came off an early-90s JDM car; a set of Stern meshies (before Stern was bought out) which possibly could be a product out of the partnership between BBS and Stern back in the day. The design looks very similar to the BBS LM. I haven't been able to figure out the exact model though, as the stickers have either peeled off or faded.
Now to the point of the post: Like the majority of the rims out there, their offset is too low for the S, according to the super helpful "wheel fitment guide." The specs are 8-inch, +35 in the front and 9-inch +35 in the rear. Ideally, I'd like to run 225 in the fronts and 255 in the rears. I went down to a local tuner shop today, and they quoted me some pretty high prices compared to the ones mentioned in this forum (this is Canada after all, where everything is a tad more expensive): it'll be $150 PER CORNER. That's for rolling the fenders, plus any extra expenses in fixing cracked paint. But for $75 per corner, he can just bend the "lip" of the fender inwards if my fitment is not too aggressive.
Can people give me some input as to what approach I should take? With +35 offset on 8-inch wheels in the front and 9-inch wheels in the rear, what needs to be done to make this work with absolutely no rubbing issues? I think I corner pretty aggressively (why else would you buy an S?) and I'm looking to keep the stock springs and struts for the forseeable future. I'm afraid that after he bends the lips inwards, I might still rub when taking long curves like offramps where my S has a pretty high degree of body roll. It would suck if he has to reverse the modification, and have me pay double, not to mention the potential damage to my fenders.
Thanks S2ki
Here's a link to a pic of my old car with the rims in question. Anybody know the model of these Stern wheels?
