Default How are RE-01R's in the cold?

Hey guys. Well just curious as I just came across this in s2k talk, that the OEM's are hard as rock in the cold and they lose traction.

Without rain or snow, how do the RE-01's stand in just the cold?

I'm pretty sure the RE 010R tire is a high performance summer tire (very close to R-compound rubber). This would make the tire a very poor choice for all season use. If you are considering cold weather driving (below 40F), there are many all season choices for the S2000.

well during the winter it gets considerably colder.. sometimes in the teens. Thats only a few days out of the year and usually only in the morning.

But either way..

here in my part of KY either we only see a few snow days a year, but i went ahead and got a set of all-seasons for the fall/winter. didn't feel like chancing it and wrecking my car on re-01r's over the winter. my friend with an ap2 drove on the stock re050 all winter last year and did fine though. definitely don't drive them in any snow whatever you do.

I just got my set for the stockers and got to test them out recently. Dry, it's much better than my old Falken GRBs and in the wet, it felt very stable around corners. Quiet tires too. I love them. Going to use them for the track. Now I want to get a set for my 18" Volks.

I drove summer performance tires in the snow once. Even with chains (the wire type) and traction control in a FWD Volvo I couldn't get up a 3% grade.

Cold (below freezing) will actually damage the rubber compound on the Bridgestones.
