Default HRE Owners Survey

Am considering a purchase of HRE 545 in 18". What were your offsets for front/rear? What tires used and recommendations appreciated. Are you satisfied with the quality? Did you notice an improvement in handling? I prefer the twisties rather than drag racing... I am not planning to drop the S2K. Thanks!

I will speak for my customer who is away on business. He has the HRE 545 18'' with silverstone painted centers. The quality is amazing. He bought 18x8.5 front and 18x10 rear from me early this summer. They are actually not that heavy because they are forged. This also makes them stonger i.e. better for hadling and prevention of cracking or getting a bent rim. They fit great. Call me for the offsets as I do not have them in front of me. By the way, the rear tires are 285/30-18. He went with the Bridgestone S03's and he says that they are incredible. Granted, with 285 in the rear, traction will be awesome. Call me at 610-513-8418 to discuss this further or email me at: Anthonymv@aol.com.

Anthonymv - might want to save the advertising for another forum.

bazaar - I can help you out with the offsets and sizing. the sizing that Anthony stated is probably not for you. sure you can squeeze 18x8.5's and 18x10.5's on the car, but not even that I would recommend - ESPECIALLY if the car is naturally aspirated. yea, as Anthony says, 285's in the rear traction will be awesome, but also not even necessary since pushing those 285's with 200hp at the rear wheels will not need traction because they will drag your car down as it is.

want some advice on HRE's or Kinesis wheels (which are very similar and in the same caliber), send me a PM and email with q's or your phone # and I'll give you a ring.

Hey Schatten,

What's the secret about those two awesome rims that you can't share with the rest of the S' owners?

By the way there are a hand full of people running with HRE's 18x8.5 and 18x10.5 already!

teknic - no secret at all. but 18x8.5 and 18x10.5's I wouldn't recommend. I'd actually go .5" down from that to an 18x8 and 18x10 for the rears. It adds a bit more track that isn't really usable, IMO. But seriously.. a NA S with those large wheels... it would be difficult to push. So, you'll definately lose power getting them to turn. Not much.. but enough to put you a few car lengths behind another S.

Schatten,
I was just giving him some feedback. I never said that those sizes are right for him, I just said that they are incredible rims that are VERY agressive. I privately emailed him telling him that maybe 255 or 265 with a 9'' wide rim might be better. My customer has the SpeedCraft kit so power is not a problem for him. Just feedback from an owner. By the way, all I said was that I sold rims to a guy, I never gave a plug like, "I carry HRE rims, buy from me!" I gave him an email address so that he could privately ask me further about the sizes and my customer's opinion, which is the best feedback you can get about a product.

I'll extend thanks to Anthonymv and Shattan for their opinions and suggestions. I appreciate the viewpoints of each and it was my intention to obtain such differing alternatives. Each person on this board must find out which is the best fit for him/her and proceed from there. I find it extremely helpful and this forum informative. Many of the S2Ki members share their experiences so others may benefit from it or avoid the pitfalls. For me and I'm sure most other owners of the S2K, the car is an enjoyable and entertaining hobby, not to be taken too seriously. It is a toy in every sense of the word. Still 'on the fence' since I'm still not sure of the 'ideal' offset for the HREs (or any other wheel for that matter). It sure is fun looking... Thanks again to all!
