Default Max tire width on 8" wide rim (Jim?)

I would like to run 255/40/17 wide S-03 rear tires on my 17X8" rear rims on my '02 S2000.

According to Bridgestone they suggest 8.5"-10" wide rim for this spec tire.

What problems/issues, if any, would I run into running this 255 on an 8" rim.

I currently have 245/40/17 S-03s on my S2000 now.

Thanks in advance for your input.

The problem would be getting the tire to seat on the rim. The other thing is with a 17X8 wheel you would be pulling the siewall of the tire in to meet the lip of the wheel so you actually pull the outside shoulder of the tire off the ground.
I would not recommend it. Stay with the 245/40R17 and I think you will be much better off.

Thanks for the info Jim.

Do you know if it is possible to get wider rear rims from SSR?

I bought the SSR GT-1's in 17X8" for the rear of my S2000. Any way possible to get 8.5"?

Thanks.

I am running Toyo Proxes T1-S 255's on an 18x8 rim. The recommendation was also for an 8.5". I don't have any handling issues. I'll post pics tonight if I have some time.
