Arrow MY2004 new tires?

Hey guys and girls what's up? Just need a little help on something. On MY2004 I have the stock tires which are the RE050 245/40/17. A couple of the web sites like tirerack have people saying the RE050's have a really bad wear problem my car has about 9800 miles on it and are almost ready for new tires. Do most of you with stock rims stay with the Bridgestones? I was thinking of getting the Goodyear Eagle F1's and going to 255/40/17 what do you think? Will the 255 be ok? And is anyone using the Goodyear Eagle F1's and have any comments? Thanks guys.

The RE050s don't have a wear problem, they just wear down quickly. When you say your tires are worn, is it even or is the wear specific to an area?

If you don't mind the mileage/cost ratio of the OE tires, stick with them. The Goodyear Eagles are good tires and in the same $ class, but I think Bridgestone is having a sale now so that makes them more affordable.

Fwiw, I got 17k on my RE050s before I hit 3/32 on the rears. I replaced them with Kumho MX, 255 rear, and they seem nice enough so far. I almost got the Goodyears, but decided to spend less $.

the 050's have treadwear rating of 140 I think. Unless u drive it like gramma, you're not gonna get many miles.

As far as I know, treawear is only useful when comparing tires made by the same manufacturer, so you can't really go by that number when cross shopping.

That is correct. The treadwear is only good within a given brand. There is no tires that are going to last a long time on the rear of the S2K. There are a few that will last a little longer though.
If I can help let me know.
Thank you,

Just put a set of F1 GS-D3's on my '04 about 500 miles ago. 225/45's and 255/40's. Love 'em. Way better than the RE050's. Smoother, good traction, great wet. You lose a little steering response with the bigger size but for daily driving, they're great. Read Car and Driver's tire test in the Dec. '05 issue or search their site for 'tire test'. I use Michelin Pilot Sport Cups at the track and these are very complimentary.
They will get even better around 1k miles- brand new they're a little squirmy- but that goes away pretty quick. No regrets.
